I see no difference there both taking in game, to out of game.

If your ok with one why is the other one not ok?

Of course neither is okay. But we all know this, so I'm confused. What are we here to discuss?

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

When is it ok to DDoS someones comms?

Oh also: DDoSing someones comms: "Hey guys I can't get into TS"
Punching someone 'down there': "Hey there, what do you do in E- argh, what the hell? Why'd you punch me there?"

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.

No it's not OK to do either. But then it's stupid to use comms that reveal your IP to others.

Both have consequences. Punching someone in the nuts I think will have more 'tangible' repercussions.

When folks egos are so wrapped up in a game that they can't distinguish reality from fantasy, that's what is stupid.

If in EvE you have to hide your IP to play, then this game shouldn't be played at all, as it's a haven of some serious mentally ill players who'll do anything to win.

DDoSing, flag-stealing, and now punching people in the happy sack?

Although I whole heartedly agree that DDoS attacks on your coms host is terrible, perhaps you should be look for a better host. You can get DDoS protection from most server hosts, the Teamspeak official servers included.

It's something that happens in all PvP in MMOs. Mostly because people don't update their software and other people become overly competitive. Example - old versions of Skype are vulnerable to an IP snoop, the newer version is not.

It's also illegal in a whole lot of countries to do that, so if someone is targeting you like that, consider taking it to the cops via your ISP.

I like his idea of punching someone in the sack more than this one. People's contemporary reliance on cops is why a lot of crap has become so widespread. *Report to police, realize after a few months that nothing will be done about it anyway*

The OP makes me think he petitioned CCP about it, as if they have any control over your OOG comms. CCP can't do much if your comms get shut down but something tells me you'll have a series of difficulties if you go around punching guys in the sack at Fan-Fest.

DoS prosecution is all about intent. Sometimes I just feel like sending my enemy a TB of gay sex; who could fault me for that? (kidding - no list please)

Incidentally, please stop saying DDoS when you mean DoS.

Just don't send it to them image by image by linking it in local.

Just don't throw away your money for nearly useless protection plans that only prevent amateurs from doing anything.

Just having a better financed and bigger company hosting it, will scare many of these types off anyway and/or they will be able to track the culprit(s) down.

Considering the geek-pool that is EVE, if someone is determined enough to do this, they will likely accomplish their goals -- whether or not they get away with it is another story.

Can't decide right from wrong if you had to ask the question, both are bad.

However, one of them, you would probably get away with fairly easy Ugh

I have a Vent server. I raid and do PvP with that server.

Never had DDoS.

Why?

Because most people aren't so seriously disturbed that they need too.

If you regularly have a problem with DDoS attacks, really check who you associate with and what you play. Because like in real life, if you sleep with the dogs, you will get fleas.
