Some ideas for managing more than 1 account or character

Hi,

I've got some suggestions for managing more than one character or account. My suggestions are not about to make things in space easier while flying 2 or more characters at the same time, but they are about some nasty stuff you always have to do.

Window positions and sizes (including column width of tables, and so on) should be saved for every screen resolution individually

I have 2 monitors, but they have different resolutions. This means I'm switching the display adapter several times while playing. But this moves windows to different positions. Additionally, on my bigger monitor I can have some windows larger or at a different position on the screen. So it would be really nice if the window positions and sizes are saved for every screen resolution individually. I could arrange the windows on both screen resolutions differently and when switching the display adapter, everything would be fine :).

Multiple accounts logged in on the client at the same time

Switching characters is something that I have to do frequently. When CCP released the new launcher, it was possible to stay logged in with 1 account, so I just have to quit the client and press "play" again. It isn't necessary to re-enter the password. But this is only true for 1 account. For multiple accounts I have to log out and log in again. So it would be really nice to be able (only in the launcher) to log in multiple accounts that keep logged in (you could limit it to 4 accounts maximum).

It would be necessary to change the button label behavior from "play -> launching... -> play" to "play -> launched" including a confirmation dialog if a player wants to start a specific client a second time. Currently, there is no confirmation required so the opened client just shuts down.

Export/import improvements

Some improvements would be nice. I've described them here. I really like the master-clone idea.

Custom defined graphics settings

Well, this feature isn't only useful when playing more than 1 character at the same time, but it is more important if you're playing 2 characters at the same time and if you're computer is a little bit older. It would be nice if we could save our current graphics settings as a preset. With this feature we could do, for example, a "high quality" profile and a "damn it, there are too many ships in space, I need to reduce my graphics settings". User defined presets are better than predefined settings by CCP :) (because they are more individual).

I'm talking about this "Anti-Aliasing", "Shadow", "Missile Effects", "GPU Particles", ... stuff.

Bookmark sharing

This isn't too easy to solve, because I think that there are reasons for the restrictions you currently have. An idea is that you can enable a feature that allows you to have the same bookmarks on every character on the same account. Removing or adding one bookmark on one characters removes or adds it on the other one, too.

But the bigger advantage would be to have this feature available for multiple accounts. But how to solve it if CCP doesn't wants to allow bookmark sharing between arbitrary accounts (well, at least I think they don't want to :))? Well, this feature could be restricted to accounts with the same billing address.

I was just talking about the personal bookmarks, not the corporation bookmarks.

Searching through assets

This is by far not the most important feature since with 3rd party tools and a full API key this is possible out of game, but I want to mention this one, too. It would be nice to be able to search assets in game (also stuff in containers and stuff in containers in containers, ...) that are property of any of the characters of the account, not only the character that is currently logged in. The result should mention the character that currently owns the item.

This feature could be extended to characters of other accounts, too, by the same way I mentioned in "Bookmark sharing".

Okay, I've typed a lot ... do you like it? Feel free to start a good discussion.

Nobody likes this :(? Well, then I think i have to manage my accounts in the same way I had to do before ... and hoping that the new settings import/export feature is going to be great (and will be released soon). :)

For this i would recommand to read this site about Multiple Clients.

The Graphic Presets gets a thumb up, u normaly wont need it much but in some circumstances it can help.

If they change bookmarks i would prefer that they change the personal bookmarks in a way u could decide whom to share with. (That would have helped yesterday a great deal)

You are right with it isnt that important, but i dont want the asset search to access all characters on one account but it should be able to search in container.

I'm unsure as to why you would be "switching the adapter several times while playing." I currently run a minimum of four accounts across four monitors. Two monitors are 1440x900 and plugged into an AMD HD6870 and the other two are 1280x1024 and plugged into a GTS 450. I have no need to "switch the adapter" on any of the clients whatsoever.

I have just 1 EVE installation and Windows XP. I haven't set up any junction stuff like in the link that Jeanne-Luise Argenau mentioned. I might do so, but I'm not sure. I don't know much about it and how save it is, how save the mentioned programs are and so on.

After all, I'm not always playing my 2nd account on my 2nd monitor. If I don't need my 1st account, I'm playing with my 2nd account on my 2nd monitor.

It seems that Windows 7 has a native way to create symlinks. Do you use this method or the same program you need for XP?

I hate this kind of thing. Making the game easier for people who multi-box seems foolish. We need more actual people playing the game, not more people with more than one account.

Adding features like that make multi-boxing easier only advocate for this to happen more. What should be happening is reducing this kind of ****. You shouldn't have to have 2 or more separate accounts to get ahead, and it shouldn't be pushed by CCP. This is a game about cooperative collaboration, not just duel boxing your way into doing things.

It comes down to the fact that in an MMO, you'll have people that want to play on their own. If people want to solo play, they should be able to solo play without 2 or more separate ******* accounts, its ludicrous. I have never seen another MMO with so many people with more than one account. Its kinda funny when I hear about the dude who plays WoW and does raids by himself with 16 accounts, everyone is just like damn, that's crazy. Then I think of EvE where this is basically the norm. This should be ******* ridiculous, not the way the majority of people play.

What should be looked at is more solo activities for people who want to do solo activities. I feel like this niche is quickly falling away. I'm not advocating that Alts are bad. They are necessary. What I'm saying is that dual boxing characters or triple boxing or whatever, it doesn't add anything to the sandbox. Promotion of this behavior isn't something id like to see.

You really think someone would do that? Just log into EvE and tell lies?

@Silent Rambo: My ideas aren't for making dual boxing easier but more comfortable. I want to reduce some nasty work you have do to more or less frequently. Dual- or multi-boxing would be easier if CCP implements features like "travel/jump through stargate with just one button for multiple characters" or "assisting turret weapons to another character so you don't have to press F1 on both characters anymore in PvE/PvP". I don't want to have such features that make multi-boxing easier.

I don't want to start a discussion about the pros or cons of multiboxing. I've got 2 accounts and I need them even when doing things in groups. So the game is still a "cooperative collaboration" game for me.

And some features are also making your day more comfortable if you have only one account.
