First, another thread full of tears for the masses https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=252424&find=unread

Anyway, on to the recap. Earlier today, AZ created a thread saying that he was giving away his character. This naturally attracted forum nubs from all over. A posting contest was held to decide who would get the toon. After the first guy won, az declared he didn't have enough isk to do the transfer, but the winner couldn't pay because he was at work. Another contest was held. Alice won. At some point after the first winner, people paid him so the first winner could get the character under the assumption of payback I assume? Second winner also sent isk. Az then reveals the scam. bamboozled.jpg. Elsewhere at CCP headquarters, petitions began flooding in. Az laughed it off, assured that he was within the rules. CCP shows up. Thread gets WTFPWNT. Az starts to sweat and opens up 3+ new threads about it. Scammer tears are best tears. Even if he doesn't get banned, I will still have enough left over tears to fill my swimming pool.

edit: according to AZ, the scam totalled around roughly 41 bil

A ban seems unwarranted given that there is some scope for interpreting the rules to mean that they only cover scams on the character bazaar.

There are two types of EVE player:

those who believe there are two types of EVE player and those who do not.

How do you interpret "All scams involving character transfer are prohibited".

Thanks for the recap Maximillian. Pray tell the details of said character scam.

Offered the character for free if people were offering the PLEX to pay for the X-fer. According to himself, it was not a trade or a sale so it was legit to scam people. CCP seems to see it differently.

I will recap the important rule in question here:

Quote:

All scams involving character transfers are prohibited.

I will highlight the important phrase:

Quote:

All scams involving character transfers are prohibited.

That leaves an amount of wiggle room somewhere between zero and none. I have absolutely no sympathy for you. CCP has always had a prickly attitude about character transfers, and as I have said before - you test their patience on the topic at your own risk.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

I think scamming is a dishonourable practice & those who resort to scamming lack e-bushido.

Personally, I interpret it in an absolute fashion. BUT the fact that this line appear *in the Character Bazaar forum rules* leaves some scope to wonder whether it is localised in its application. It seems not, to me, but I was unable to find the rule stated in those unambiguous terms elsewhere.

yes but

"Also, if you are buying or selling a character for ISK, make sure that it is done in accordance to the Character Bazaar rules."

it was not done accordance to rules so surely it can't be a valid transfer to start with

I disagree
