I'd love to see more ship models released in unpainted, unassembled kit form so I can dig out the acrylics and polystyrene cement.

My wife bought me one a few years back. We got utterly screwed by FedEx and customs.

I haven't purchased anything from the CCP store since.

Thingiverse has a lot of 3d model plans you can use for your own personal runs. They have Pods, drakes, iterons etc.

I'm no expert but I operated an entry level commercial version of a 3D printer to make prototypes. After we purchased it we found it was actually more cost effective to use shapeways when factoring labor and post production than to step up to the next level printer. Its pretty high quality and would take very little work to make the models look proper (very little work relative to printing it on your friends makerbot).

Don't know much about exporting the models but this thread seems to have good info to at least send you in the right direction.

I would literally pay 200$ or more for a ship model (same size as the old BS models) made out of METAL. The shipping fee alone due to the weight, would make my wallet initiate self destruct timer, but would be so worth it.

Wish they WOULD .. I would buy a number of them.. the RIFTER USB HUB I bought collectors edition just for that!
