POS shooting Drones for Supercaps

I know it's not going to be an very much liked topic, but I think SC need something to be able to shoot POS.

To archive that one could change fighters/fighter bombers to be able to, so either increase their optimal range, or change the POS so that the shield is what you shoot, not a tower which is inside an impenetrable shield, which makes way more sense anyways

or

Add a drone, maybe similar to sentries, that has about 0 tracking but a high range. The damage should not be as high as those of a fighter/fighter bomber but it should be recognizable. And if you want to clear the view a little bit, increase the needed frequency so that supers can only field about 5 to 10 of them at once.

What's important, they should never outdamage a sieged dreadnought nor should they outdamage fighterbombers against capitals, for obvious reasons.

Tell me what you think.

I have a feeling this is aimed around the idea of making structure grinds faster, which is probably good...

...but also around the idea of making structure-kill fleets much harder to stop, which is probably bad.

Yeah... needing a weapon that hits at 30km to do damage to a shield bubble you're sitting 10 meters from is sort of silly.

I'm sure CCP would love to change this, legacy code is probably what is stopping it.

This change would make dreads pointless. Towers are currently the only structure grind you need a dread for (sure you can use titans too), why remove their role?

And before you say it doesn't remove the role... look at the current SC proliferation, we'd just see larger SC fleets and less dreads used.

Bringing subcaps or dropping dreads seems to work just fine, why make an overpowered ship even more so?

It would not as supers would do less dmg to a pos then a dread (at least with the new drones)

Another option could be a special siege modul that would increase the range of fighter bombers.
Supers would be more vulnerable due to the timer but would be able to shoot at posses. Seems fair to me.

Supercarriers used to be able to field regular Sentry Drones in addition to Fighters and Fighter Bombers. This one ability alone pretty much obsoleted Dreds (even though they couldn't match Dred dps against POSs) and resulted in their proliferation for over a year. The reason? They are immune to Ewar and they don't have to Siege (see: commit) to perform a task... giving them the ability to come and go from a battle as they please.

Not supporting.

yeah, just like you always see dreads being used to kill ihubs/stations/sbu's because of their siege damage (ie, they don't - or very rarely)

If you allow supers to hit a pos they'll be used instead and become THE single structure grind ship in the game.
