Instead of seeing a third person view, why not shut off the hud abruptly (like your mind and your ships connection have been severed), and move into a first person view as open your eyes for one last time to see space surround you as you take your last breath (maybe be able to look around for a second or two to see the ship that killed you, or the fleet battle around you)? Then you fade to black as you die. Then maybe some sequence like the jump gate as your mind is pulled into another body? Then the hud turns on, and your back in station. whole thing could last maybe 10 seconds, but still be immersive as ****.

Technically this probably wouldn't happen THAT fast in reality ;) but it would be a cool effect none the less. Would also convey the cold silent harshness of space.

Technically, you're dead before the pod ruptures. by the time your corpse is exposed to the emptiness of space, the scanner ha done its work, and the body has been euthanized.

At the very least we should see a briefly flailing body, rather than just going right to the frozen popsicle view.

Indeed. Let's not try and everything in EVE just to make it flashy, please. Some of us like having a game with some substance and validity to it. I know a lot of you people are all "**** the lore, **** everything, make it flashy because nobody ******* cares", but no. Looking around? It's space. You're already frozen. Flailing? Sure, now that the first wave of "let me turn this off, it's a waste of time" has died down, let's start a new wave of "let me turn this off, it wastes even more time" or "This is too creepy, let me shut it off." Nevermind the fact that by the time your body's exposed to space, you're already dead.

The only way the scanner can do its job is if you're already dead. Therefore, the instant a breach of the pod's hull is detected, the capsuleer's body is euthanized and the Burning Scanner goes right to work before any neural data can be lost. This also prevents the pilot from remembering their own death, which is absolutely a Very Bad Thing™.

I understand people don't care about anything except shooting each other and would prefer that the game be stripped down to only include that, but you don't get to retcon all the lore for trivial silly things. Sorry.

The Capsule and the Clone Here's the lore. It doesn't mention preventing the capsuleer from remembering their own death, but that's mentioned in Cloning.

The relevant bit is:
"The moment the capsule sensors detect a breach in the capsule they activate the emergency uploading of the mind of the person in the capsule, as described above. The capsule makes an analog scan of the brain of the person. This extraordinary snapshot records the exact state of the mind, including every neuron connection between every brain cell. Because the scan must be instantaneous and efficient it brutalizes the brain in the process. In early tests, the subjects were left with permanent and severe brain damage after being scanned, a fact that is impossible to escape. But as the person is about to die in any case, this unfortunate side effect has little consequences. All modern capsules are highly tuned to when to take the snapshot – if it is done too early there is a chance that the subject will not die at all, but live on in a vegetative state. And if the snapshot is taken too late there is the risk that the scan will fail or even that the revived clone will remember its own death, a very traumatic experience that can introduce severe psychological and functional problems in the clone."

Thanks to sleeper tech, DUST mercs now have an implant that allows for the transfer of consciousness even at the moment of death, with no scanner needed. This is how they handle the problem of scanners being iffy at best when outside a capsule. At least in theory, the same thing could be used for capsuleers to close the gap in our immortality that comes from leaving the pod. Even so, I would still expect that your clone would already be dead before fully exposed to space.

also in the lore, the implants that allow dust mercs to do that takes out a relatively significant part of their brain. fully integrated mercs lose a large part of the non critical parts of their brain to accommodate the implant.

What DUST Mercs are now using the technology that I thought I had exclusive access to!

I don't like the flailing idea. The whole point of the OP was it would be first person anyway, letting you live like an actual human seconds before you die.



This is silly. not implementing new features because of defined "lore" is a terrible excuse to not basically raise immersion, or just make the game better in general. Its a game, it needs to change and grow, and sometimes those changes will conflict with the lore as it is defined now. Its best to just get over it, because regardless of my idea or not, its going to continue to happen, and lore will continue to change with it.

I'm not apposed to the idea that the OP describes, but just saying.....

If your pod is pulverized by a flipping great missile, or mulitple lazer bursts, or discoed to death by an array of smartbombs....

I hardly think it's going to fly violently apart, leaving you floating unharmed in space and what remains of your pod-goo, giving you a few seconds to contemplate the infinite'ness of the universe and to give the finger to the ship that just podded you, before you quietly die.

You will probably already be pink mist and goo vapor.
