Hello Summit,

My name is Caldun of Everyshore, recently moved into Amarr. I've only just started my life as a capsuleer - an opportunity that was presented to me due to a conflict that tore my home and family from me as a child. Long story. The reason I am here is because I see no way to be successful out in space if I am not keeping up with the events of New Eden.

Sadly due to my lack of reason to follow any politics prior to my entry into space a matter of months ago, I have no background knowledge nor experience in the field. What resources have those of you who keep ontop of the politics of New Eden found that would help me get up to speed with recent events - especially those that affect the Amarr region and neighboring regions. Also where can one tune to to hear the latest news in the universe?

I hope my introduction has not intruded upon the flow of your interactions - I hope to play a better contributing role in the years to come. Safe flying.

Welcome, pilot Caldun!

Most pilots get their daily news from a source like New Eden Today

Also, let me point you at a good source of historical material to bring you up to speed.

Luckily you won't find much in the way of political drama in Amarr. The Empress speaks, we obey. Pretty simple. Being the oldest spacefaring civilization, we tend to favor planning and patience instead of rash action, so our troubles are few. We also have the best techno music scene in New Eden (trance music and laser effects, pretty obvious who's going to be #1 in that department).

I don't know much about formal education, and I'm sure captain Akahoshi's links will give you more than enough ground for that. If you are interesting in debating those materials, and discussing about it, we in PIE Public are usually glad to participate in such debates.

Always a pleasure to meet more nubile young women who are new the life of a Capsuleer, especially when they are eloquent.

Welcome to space, ms. Caldun of Everyshore.
I have to say it's heart warming to see a polite newcomer like yourself, for a change.
The links provided should keep you occupied for long enough; if you'd like to discuss politics and such however, I'd be willing to hear you out and rather, help you out.

Safe travels.

First practial lesson on capsuleer politics:

Leopold Caine is an Angel, member of an illegal cartel. Don't trust what he says, don't do as he says. He's a dangerous captain in combat, so better stay away from him.

Silas Vitalia and Bai'xao are Blood Raiders/Sani Sabik (only they care for the difference between both things) and, as such, dangerous heretics. Again, they are dangerous captains, so steer away from them if you see them in local.

There are many more captains to be cautious about in the IGS, but these three are those that more easily can be mistaken for loyal amarrians, and hide the serpents inside their hearts.

Well before anyone says avoid me for whatever reasons, welcome to the verse. Do yourself a favor and try not to ruminate over the news too much. You might get yourself jaded before you even really start your career.

Aside from that, welcome.

Oh, a few other tips. Never go to Rancer, don't look bouncers in the eye when clubbing in Hek, try the kebabs in Dam Torsad (doesn't matter where in the city, just get one), if someone offers you a blue sphere saying it's candy DO NOT TAKE IT, try not to get anything remotely RESEMBLING a Minmatar tattoo, always bring a towel (trust me), never bring up politics with nationalists of any ethnicity in the room, don't trust Silas Vitalia at all, I-RED Lounge has the best tea around, and most IMPORTANT OF ALL: Always respect the bearded ones. ALWAYS. You'll know them when you meet them.

Let me know if you need more help!

Bringing Quafe to a meeting in the State will expose you to a certain degree of prejudice. It's best to stick with the tea - for all reasons.

Thank you for the kind words, and likewise to the rest of you. My entry into the world of New Eden has been made simpler by your assistance. I must say the history of this Amarr empire are astounding, the things I am reading - which I would assume are true - are like the legends that me and my friends used to make up in Priscadina. I am however plagued by war already - despite the supposedly peaceful state of the Amarr region, the corporation that I fly for has been targeted by a group of well trained ex-military mercenaries. Despite my attempts at earning myself clemency the mercenaries simply laughed in my face and forced me into the body of my alpha clone. I couldn't sleep all night, and cried for the first time in 8 years.

I'll be posting a notice looking for a more adequate corporation to work for that will allow me to grow my skills more appropriately to my goals - I may end up working with one of the universities but I need to do a bit more reading.

Be skeptical of what you are told. Trust few if any of the people you do not know. The Empires, signatories of CONCORD, tell you the world as they wish it to be. Glossing over dark histories they would as soon pretend never happened. Seek out the channel White Morning to learn what many will not tell you.

If your corp has a fleet, fleet up and fly together to kill de mercs.

A good corp has fleet commanders (fc's) and some idea how their pilots should replace their assets. A /great/ corp has some kind of ship replacement scheme. Dese are questions you should ask before you join "Do you have FC's, what is your corp combat record, how do members replace der assets in wartime."

If dey have no fleet and no plan, den it's just some yoyo taxin his members.

For a new pilot I highly recommend the corp "Brave Newbies" or "Eve University."

Good luck

Thank you for the feedback, captain Cipher. [AIRHO] does provide asset replacement and they fly with some very well organized fleet commanders. The corporation itself seems to be able to hold it's own weight. My contributions are in the negative and I can't say the dedication to a war that could last weeks is exactly what I want to be worrying myself about this early into my career. This is why I am seeking a corporation which attempts to maintain the most peaceful relations with others and abides by the standards put forth by CONCORD.

My dear,

Every corp is subject to wardec, der is no "peace corp". If dey provide ships, then I suggest you take it as a learning experience. Der will be plenty of time to mine, trade, politic and do other tings. Do not waste a precious opportunity, take de ships provided and tackle your heart out.

Your clones will only get more expensive in the future, learn while der still cheap. Make liberal use of platinum insurance, if you can get on some killmails you will be entitled to bounties. If you have an extra hi-slot you can fit a salvager, and salvage der wrecks. Alot of little tricks like dis.

Combat experience - check
Equipment provided - check
Can make cash - check

I'm not seeing a downside.

You will be lucky if dis war lasts for more dan 1 week.

If you are looking for a good chance to learn and to fly in a peacefull surrounding, probably EVE University is indeed the best corporation for you. I've never flown with them, but all I hear about them is good.

While there is truth in this fact - my only quarrel is that I don't want to be learning my skills without abundant peers. While belonging to this smaller corporation I can see a greater deal of inter-communication, and things get done as a team. On the other hand my time at the university was extremely segregated, and few pilots if any ever kept close contact with others or flew in fleets. The sense of belonging just doesn't exist within the universities.

Sadly I think I need to take things in stride. There are many a pirate lurking around beyond the reach of the empire that hold a pretty high bounty. Stay away from trade route systems and the threat of capsuleer interference falls off. I am sure I can meet some loyal colleagues within Hedion to keep me company. Perhaps the best decision would be to join the university, at worst I can get in some more studying on New Eden's history. Thanks for your advice captain's.
