Anthony Burgess, not Brian Aldiss.

All of the films I consider good sci-fi have already been listed. Akira is all kinds of awesome. Moon is hugely entertaining, and I think Sam Rockwell is a massively talented and underestimated actor. Blade Runner looks great and sounds better.

Yes, that was Burgess for A Clockwork Orange. Thanks for the correction. That said, I'm also an Aldiss fan. I read his Galaxies Like Grains of Sand when I was a youngster, and that work set my compass and standards for the sense of wonder and mind-blowing perspective that I demand from good sci-fi.

For me, that's the attraction of the EVE universe. It's an immense, evolving story in which we all have a hand. People who become bored wit hit simply haven't the imagination or the inclination to find satisfaction in participation. Most games hand you stuff: the story line (if there even is one), goals, endgame, etc. That's boring.

Also - agree with your assessment of THX1138.

Most moving Sci-fi on a low budget: The Brother From Another Planet

Best recent Sci-fi: District 9 (honorable mention for recent Judge Dredd).

Not already Mention Sci-Fi: Apollo 18, scared the **** out of me, and I liked the style of the documentary

You just can't get better Sci-Fi: Star Wars (the original and not f*cked about version)

Although there are only a couple of movies involved, the whole Dr. Who series is brilliant.

Dune.

Blade runner.

Star Trek movies. The first one ever, I,e, Star Trek: The motion picture, is probably my favourite of the whole lot.

Bro you just blew my mind. I didn't even know there was a short story, so now I have to try and track it down.

This also reminded of a pretty interesting and ahead of it's time T.V. mini series called "Wild Palms" that Olliver Stone produced (I think). It was based on a comic strip which I still haven't been able to track down, but I remember it being pretty cool for some of the subject matter it covered. Also adding to the list-- Ghost in The Shell Solid State Society as well as the Stand Alone Complex series.

I really liked Oblivion. Being serious here, Its in my top 3 scifi films.

Serenity is my top though.

You are starting to get into the subgenres but what would define a movie as being a Sci-fi related movie? (yes that's a can of worms to open :) )

Post apoc is a standard theme in Sci Fi related material. 12 Monkeys would fit in the realm of Sci fi in relation to time travel.

Best way to look at it is basically, does it feel like a sci fi reality or ideal, then class it as sci fi.
