Ship customization - how to get the girlfriend interested

Not sure of this belongs in General Discussion or not.

Came across this pic earlier this morning and my niece saw it and immediately wanted to play. Granted, she's six, but I know several women my age who go nuts for this stuff.

I personally don't know how I'd feel if CCP implemented this kind of customization, other than I might make it my personal mission to destroy every last ship like this. It'd be awesome on a pirate ship, though...no one would expect to be WTFPWND by Hello Kitty. Hell, you could throw in a My Little Pony icon for ultimate cuteness.

What would you guys do if something like that was ever implemented?

Already alot of ppl, including me, who would love to see some sort of ship customization.

Even if it were Hello Kitty? Blink

That's where the opinions start to differ.

But I would prefer it without hello kitty and ponies.

For what should be obvious hardware limitation reasons, that particular type of ship customization (if it would be visible to everybody else too) would be quite performance-prohibitive if a large number of fully customized ships would ever congregate into a small area of space (which you just know WILL happen in hours, if not minutes from the feature going live).

So you have a few possible (but not necessarily pleasant) shortcuts to that (current) limitation:

1. Only allow people to view their alterations to their own customized ship when they're in it, and every other ship gets the default scheme (showinfo on any ship in space however could show actual custom work on it).

2. Almost the same as point 1, but allow people to set a threshold number of other customized ships viewable, and as soon as that threshold is surpassed, all ships (except your own) revert to default skins. Effectively, option 1 is the same as setting the threshold to value "0".

3. Limit customization options to a manageably small set of total possibilities, so that you could actually display any combination thereof without overloading anybody's graphics card.

4. Limit customization to altering colour schemes on some specially-designed skins that allow variable colouring with a single set of textures, or rework all existing skins to permit that, and MAYBE also allow placing decals of your own corp and/or alliance insignia in specific places on the ship skin.
This last one is the one most likely to actually get implemented eventually.

My wife was indifferent, until I showed her my Thorax.

tbh, shes still indifferent.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Re-skinning is the closest and I support that.

I believe someone even made it to the CSM once by throwing together a ship customization menu in photo shop and then making some promises they were in no position to make.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

I don't care how they will do it, but as long as I someday get to have this on my ships I agree.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

The Thanatos has sort of a Whaleshark thing going on If that's close enough.

Actually, I was thinking more of the Maelstrom. My very first thought when I saw it was : Damn, that ship needs a friggin' sharkmouth.

This old picture was one of my first ever tries with photoshop- and still I am yearning to see this in game.

If they liked that then you probably shouldn't show them the HK Kestrel and Apoc or the Pink Widow, scroll halfway down the pages for them.

While I wouldn't want to go that far with detailed skins, it would be nice just to change the color scheme on ships. Of course we would probably end up with most people flying around in all black ships if it was an option.

"Ship customization - how to get the girlfriend interested"

I was expecting something along the lines of "see this one with the green mark? it's Dread Guristas, we call it DG for short like Dolce & Gabbana... yeah, this stuff is super bling."

My late fiance thought EVE was one of the more beautiful games she had seen, and she liked the ship designs.

I could never get her to play it because (1) she claimed she would not have been able to wrap her head around the intricacies, and (2) quick motions in combat and maneuvers made her ill.

She passed away about two months ago from a heart attack, so its odd right now playing EVE without her looking over my shoulder every so often and asking what was going on.
