Advanced Spaceship Command, general discussion

So... Everyone knows that with Odissey a lot of stuff changed, most of all in much skill requirements.
I start this post not with the intention of negatively criticize or instead praise the changes brought to the game.

Instead, I'd like to discuss generally the Advanced Spaceship Command skill.

As things are now, and even how they were before, excluding the freighters prerequisites, Advanced Spaceship Command is useless until trained to level 5.

In my opinion such a choice is questionable, mostly because against the idea of skill progressing itself, that praises who train them further on but force no one to do so if they don't want to have access to further improvements.

I don't see any point in having a skill that must be trained to level 5 for any use you can have with it. Surely, this means more time training for access to capital ships, that which itself could be the point, but isn't it a little... too much?

If only there was a skills discussion sub forum....

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

Well, freighters certainly benefit from the 25% agility bonus given by ASC V

Yes, it's is a pointless skill. Everything that uses it requires it at V anyways. Why not just buff Caps agility by 25% and refund SP.

because you're removing 20-30 days of training?

I agree completely, they should remove levels 2-5 and make the first level take 30 days to train, giving the full 25% bonus when trained.

If you are whining about 1 skill train that takes long, maybe capitals aren't your cup of tea.

OP isn't complaining about the time investment, but rather the point that you make in your first sentence.

In effect, there really only is one giant level of ASC, because for the skill to be useful at all, it must be trained to V.

It directly counters the entire point of having skill levels that improve ships as you train it.

Unlocking a ship at level 1, then improving it as you train more levels makes sense and is the intended system. If you must train it to level V to begin with, it serves only as a time sink, and does not put the "improvement over time" mechanic into use.

If the goal is to create a time sink, the training time can be more distributed over levels, for an equal or greater total time, but making the ship's that use the skill accessible at a lower level, and improving over time.

Yes but they wouldn't be able not to benefit from it, since you now need lvl 5 skill to use them. It's like all capitals are 25% more agile than how written in specifics, it's pointless.

Noooooooo, since the removal of Industrial V from freighters has dropped my time to get into an obelisk from three weeks-ish to 18h I think it's a pretty necessary timesink.

You're still better off with an ASC V Charon than a guy still flying around in an ASC I Fenrir.

Just make it a rank 25 skill and lower the requirement by a level or two for lesser capships.
The training time will be about the same, but the (very very painful) levels will mean something. P

Surviving 26 jumps in enemy space as a war target in a T1 BC I can say much for the value of ASC.

That is exactly the point and no it's not too much, its a cap ship they are supposed to have LONG training times.

If you mean battlecruiser, they get nothing from this skill. It only adds agility to hulls that require ASC.
