Missiles are missing targets when sliding into warp

When firing upon targets and you have hit the warp button on an acceleration gate or are preparing to fly off to a stargate or station and haven't yet entered warp(for example traveling in a direction and need to slide for 10s or more to "fly off") the missiles will travel to your target but not damage it.

Anyone else who have encountered this bug aswell?

it is designed that way so you cant fire off a volley and warp off, you have to stay on grid for your missiles to do damage, why it is programed to kick in as soon as you start warp I'm not sure. that said I wonder what happens if you align to a target fire a volley, warp to the target and fire another volley. looks like the first volley disappears aww :(

It probably get in action as soon as the warp try to initiate because it would of been a nightmare to find a way to check exactly when the ship really entered a warp because of the many tricks you can pull off to make a ship enter warp fast like a web slingshot.

Wrangler: Hello there and welcome to the CCP! How can i help you?
Customer slams a missile on the table.
Wrangler: Ah the XZV-1250, aka, the "Devastatonator!" Problem?
Customer: Yeah i have a problem. I was at a belt right...
Wrangler: Right.
Customer: And this ripe, delicious, full of minerals ship was there...
Wrangler: Gotcha. Big ship, muchos ISKneros.
Customer: In a nutshell. Well, i was shooting away with these blood things *hits missile* *missile bleeps*
Customer: ...
Wrangler: ...
Customer: I was shooting away and the ship began to warp.
Wrangler: Understandable reaction to being shot, mhm. The problem is?
Customer: This sorry excuse for a missile didn't follow!
Wrangler: Excuse me?
Customer: This missile. Didn't. Follow!
Wrangler: Into warp...?
Customer: Exactly. I want it fixed.
Wrangler: Fixed...missile...warp...
Customer: Yup. I'm right, i'm...*dramatic pause*...The Customer!
Wrangler: Ok then. *picks up the XZV-1250 and walks to the backroom*

*cling cling whrrrrrr bang bang bang damnit! whirwhir! zzzzzzt!*

Wrangler: RIGHT! *slams the missile back on the counter* There ya go.
Customer: Huh?
Wrangler: It's the new and improved XZV-1250 with an inbuilt warp engine for those HARD to reach targets who dare escape you.
Customer picks up the missile varily.
Customer: Umm..thanks?
Wrangler: Quuuuite welcome! Have a nice day now.
Customer: You..too?

*ding ding*

Wrangler whistles and reads a book for a while.

*dig ding*

Wrangler: Hello and welc...
Customer walks in, covered in smokestains, burned clothes and dragging behind a shiptag with the name "Wee-Haul-1" barely readable; "Don't you Hello and welcome to CCP me!! I want to havea word with you...

Yeah, I do think it is a bug aswell. I recall that missiles have to hit the target aslong as you are on grid (atleast, that's what I recall). The way it is now, they won't hit the target as soon as you hit the warp-button. THe strang thing is, that your launchers still fire new volleys while accelerating into warp.

@Eru GoEller
It's not that the missile should follow the target into warp. It's that when I'm on grid and not warping(flying off) but are sliding into warp which takes a few seconds(for example if you travel in the opposite direction of the one you'll warp in), during this time I can fire missiles which travel to the target, but they'll deal no damage

Can you score hits while initiating a warp with turrets?

Yes, turrets still damage your target even if you already gave a warp command or activated a gate.

i remember reading a dev statement that it is a known limitation in the missile code (an unfixable bug if you will). if someone has too many time on their hands, they can sift through the forums and find it for me.

I should buy an Ishtar.

That feature has been around for years and as everyone else says, it's not a bug.

Lets talk about a real bug, or maybe it is working as intended too.

When i fire my missiles at a target when i am out of missile range then i do no damage....haha wait for it!

But once i am inside my missile range if i am still shooting at the same target sometimes i still do no damage. i have to turn off the launcher and fire it again.

This happens to me all the time in my tengu.

Seems like it shows a bit of favoritism towards turrets unless your guns stop dealing damage when you initiate a warp.

And that has always been the strongest argument against it.

Sure your missiles should not hit the target after your actually in warp.

But a zealot can pop any frigate faster u can say warp drive active and still keep popping things until it finally warps off. So why should missile ships be any different?

Most liekly due to the coding of flight time being different than instant weapon damage.

It's not a bug it's the way missiles were designed. If you want to GTFO after firing a volley you should align to your destination and than hit warp after the missiles impact your target. If you just hit warp right after you fire a volley you probably won't do any damage unless their close to you.

not quite the same thing but....thought this was interesting.

I noticed that when I was over 100km from target and have a bunch of cruises in flight .. hit MJD aligned towards my target...

I hit the target for double damage as my in flight missiles and newly launched missiles hit the target at the same time... works best starting around 110km from target..

not sure if this still applies post cruise buff...? anyone noticed?

It is pretty naff that while aligning for warp in a missile ship you can still TAKE damage from incoming fire can not deal any back.
If CCP cant be arsed to fix the fact that any missiles fired after initiating a warp but before entering warp will do no damage, they should set it so that any incoming damage dealt to a missile-only ship is likewise nullified. Its only fair after all :P

Like THAT is ever going to happen.

This is not a bug either. When you are "in range", your missiles still need to travel to the target. If the target is flying away from you the missiles have to fly a greater distance than when the target was stationary, so they can still exceed the maximum flight time and despawn without doing damage.

Missiles don't have a range like turrets do, even though the new tooltip in-game is calling it range. It's still the old calculation: max flight time x missile velocity.

If you fired the missiles when you are just "in range" it's totally possible you still miss due to the above. Though for the same reason, it's just as well possible to hit someone who was out of range when you fired the missile. Try to shoot a ship that is closing in on you :)
