Cloning Elapse Time

Hi Guys,

I've been working my way through the tutorials, and reading the forums, etc. So far I think I've learned more about my own limitations than the game. For a while I was thinking about naming my ship Too Stupid To Live, but it occurred to me, in this game, that would be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Anyhow, I want to go Into exploration, and I figured the best way for me to do that after I finish the tutorials is to just fly and equip every ship I can, get blown out of the stars, get up, dust my backside off, and do it again. Until I I learn something. I mean ships look cheap and if I keep my clone updated, now seems the time to make the really stupid "Boy did I learn from that one" mistakes.

Unless...it takes lots of time to activate the clone. How much time does it take? I mean I won't mind being knocked down, if I can get back up and try again in a reasonable amount of time. I can earn money mining, and ships are cheap at my level.

Thanks.

Medical clones are instant. As a new player you won't even need to worry about upgrading a medical clone for about a month, it holds up to 900 000 skill points.
Hence you can get podded (capsule destroyed), wake up in station, upgrade your clone (once over the 900 000sp), grab a new ship, go out, rinse, repeat as much as you like.

It's jump clones that have a time limit on them. These are very different from medical clones, they're not related to your deaths. Jump clones are a way to 'hop' across the galaxy fast, sending your mind from one body to another. They're also used to have multiple different implant sets, something which you probably won't worry about for some months yet.

Edit: P.S. NPCs will only blow your ship up, they will never pod you. Only other players will do that.

What Elena said.

Also, if you love to run dangerous stuff, I'd suggest that you buy your ships in bulk.
While activating the clone is instant, it can take a long time (hours) to buy a replacement ship with all the modules and get them to where you are, especially if you are far away from the usual trade hubs.

Especially as you will quickly start caring about your fitting. And when you really want that meta 3 module because meta 2 doesn't fit and meta 4 is absurdly expensive; but the only person within 10 jumps that is selling that meta 3 asks for 20 times the usual price ... shopping can be long.

And that's why I now buy ships in bulk. I prefer having 3 ships collecting dust in my hanger than having to stop shooting stuff for 3 hours just to assemble a replacement ride. And when I'm down to 1 replacement, I schedule another shopping trip.

Thanks. I'm stocking up on ships now, because I don't like waiting around, but i had not thought far enough ahead to be fitting them. Good advice.

Note that in the fitting screen you can save your fittings and refit to the same specs with one click (if you have the stuff needed).

And thanks to some dark magik you can actually drag a saved fitting to your market window and get a shopping list.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

It is helpful to use the drag and drop to find modules from a saved fit if you blow yourself up a lot. I use it all the time :). Being a noob is great while stuff is cheap just remember to always update your clone if you have more than 900,000 SP.

EVE fitting tool
is your friend. You can export fits in xml format and then import them in the game fitting screen.

Just don't get carried away with the statistics. It's a common mistake to blindly stack the dps and tank (tank n gank). Other factors like tracking and maneuver will come into play in combat. Sometimes it's worth fitting smaller guns so you can hit things more accurately or fit e-war and propulsion.

Remember that whenever you have a bad day in EVE, the correct reponse is "Thank you CCP, may I please have another?"
