Hey guys,
I was wondering what happened to this Dev blog: "Death to downtimes! - reported by CCP Hunter. 2010.10.29
Link: http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=817

It states that CCP is working on decreasing downtimes, this has definitely been implemented. Especially tonight, by my reckoning down time was many be 10 minutes or so. Big thumbs up guys!!!!

I've wondering whether the Devs can give us an update on the "Future" portion of this Dev Blog. i.e. in the future, EVE will not need any downtime.

Is this still in the works? Is it even feasible with the current code and hardware?

This is quite pertinent to me being in a portion of the world where DT hits during peak play times. A 5 minute down time is no problem. However, the presence of a DT stops or severely limits what one can do during these times. Either actions need to be started very early, or extremely late.

Any new information guys will be great. Keep up the awesome work and I'm really looking forward to Winter!!!

Wah wah, they worked it down to 30 minutes compared to what used to be an hour, obviously halving the waiting time because most of the time the hour downtimes only took around 30 minutes anyway. With this 30 minute downtime rule we have now quite a few of the downtimes have been between 20-30 minutes so how could they reduce it when they actually need the time allocated? I think its a good thing, gives CCP time to have a look at the server for any small problems and for that brief point in a day botters arent whoring systems Roll

arent the servers running on Microsoft software atm? in which case how can they remove downtime completely? they need some time to showel the crap that MS's bad coding creates into the recycling bin anyways, otherwise the whole lot is likely to spontaneously fall over and catch fire!

Makes sense... They are already trying to implement live migration so as to make hot dedication of nodes possible. If they keep a couple of spare "backup" nodes they can cycle through every one of them and kill the downtime to almost zero.

The real problem is that there are some things that by design require the downtime to happen, like outpost building and something else I don't remember

Well most of the time I can log back in after like 15/20 minutes already.
