I need to create an API for an EVE Corporation. An external website forum says you create limited api's for corporations but on going to apis through the EVE webpage, there is no info stating 'Full' and 'Limited'. I am guessing that is because I decide the extent of the 'Limited'. However, that website, "skilltrainingcomplete.com/questions.." from 2 separate forum posts/comments , gives a couple of links and I get 404 error on both of them so cant access any info on api's. as this post is specifically about apis, can someone post detailed api info from help guide websites pretty please, as in what it is but more specifically, what the headings are for...basically just a cut and paste job of the very useful info for newbies. im not after an interpretation. ive seen from other websites that the help guides are very, well 'helpful' ,so I doubt the info will need translating...

and I reckon it would be good to have it on the forum. if it all is already, will greatfully accept a link but I reckon a cut and paste is better. vmt all.

edit: oh darn. 1. Will you do it? 2. Will you do it? 3. Pretty please, would appreciate someone posting it.

The 'full' and 'limited' references are for the old style API systems, which is no longer available for creation, replaced with the new, more configurable CAK system.

Each heading on the API page pretty much correlates with the specific API functions on http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/EVE_API_Functions

Which is a little more complicated.

The Corporation that's asking for the key should be able to provide you with a predefined link, to create a key with all the privileges that they want from you. If they're demanding a full or limited key, they don't know what they're talking about, and you should think about finding a different corporation.

Thanks Steve, just what I am after...

I am trying to paste the content below but it says 'cannot paste html' which I don't understand as surely your link is html...?
(don't want 404 errors again and it would aid me in keeping useful info together)

would you or someone else please post it in this thread, (I even tried pasting then cutting from notepad and still get the error message, aswell as my splitting the www. address shown at bottom that i was trying to paste and it cant be the hyperlinks..perhaps ive not posted enough in the forum?)

EDIT: CCP moved the API website to a new address, which is why you were getting the 404 errors. Here are the current locations (you must log in to access):

API Key Website
Create new API Key

The choices of information to reveal are self-explanatory, really, and you just click on them.

We can already see your character information, your name, corporation, employment history, location, public contacts, in-game. Those would be the choices for a "limited" key, so that the corp website can automatically detect whether you're in the corporation.

We cannot see your wallet balance, transaction history, your assets, or information about your account such as alts, so that would be the "full" key, to let the CEO and Directors see if you gave money to enemies or spies, if you have alts in other corporations, if you lied about how rich you are or that you're a newbie during the recruitment process.

They can use the api key you give them by loading it into Evemon or www.eveboard.com to see the actual information. They cannot change or take anything from your characters via the API.

EDIT: You can test your API Key by loading it into www.eveboard.com (with a password) or Evemon and checking yourself what's visible.

this is really funny. thanks for the information. it makes sense to me to USE THIS THREAD instead of links to READ THE INFORMATION. thought I made it obvious last comment.

if someone would kindly post required info in this thread or lol ill start to think... (ill post it next post..)

but very many thanks for the information anyway.

its not good being a newbie ;)

once the info is in here, I will remove my erroneous blurb posts(delete or leave blank) and hopefully have just the useful info in here

thankyou for explaining the 404s which Is appreciated but after being a victim of organised hacking, I am ultra cautious nowadays so when funny things start happening to my pc, I get worried and having info here, which I trust seems preferable to me. If I get weird things happen, I prefer the info gleaned to be public thus avoiding man-in-middle attacks...I am not a computer expert but links can later be altered. (do nothing, no-one knows..done again..do nothing, no-one knows.. appear such, its a no-win situation...)

Yes you made it obvious, but any screenshots that I take of the API site end up on my hard drive, and then I have to edit them with arrows and pointers to you, then upload them to photobucket or whatever and create a link, which you then will refuse to follow. We cannot post screenshots directly into the forum from our computers, they have to be hosted online somewhere first.

And, it's way more work than posting a few words and a link. And you're not paying me anything to do all this work.

So good luck with your question and hopefully someone answers it the way you want them to.

EDIT: RE: hacking phobia, you trust this site, and the API pages I linked are PART OF THIS SITE ( eveonline.com ), and if you click the links it doesn't even bring up the "warning, you're going off to the bad internet, are you sure?" message because the pages are PART OF THIS SITE, so I don't know what you actually expect us to do.

not asking for a screenshot, just a cut and paste...my apologies if I didn't mention that.

you see I ask myself, a simple request which has been refused by certain members and ignored by others. and then I post something stating I am worried because ive been hacked only after blatently making it obvious WHY I would like what I need. normally I wouldn't have had to say that and life continues on its merry old way yet it seems it's a good excuse for trying to irrationalise me. if other people read this thread, I hope they realise............................
I stated man-in-middle attacks I believe and website links can later be altered..if all the info is here, everyone sees the basis for what i've done/referred to/used, if later something happens as regards me-I call it a safeguard....it is perfect sense to me -isn't it for others???????!!!!!!!!!!!??????

(eve online is just a game, I have quite a few on my hard drive-I am not a teenager, lots going on-I may take a break at some point-lots of reasons why I may need to refer back to the CORRECT info at a later date (does the average person who has posted a helpful link for someone, go back on a regular basis and check it is still routed correctly?)...being setup and being made to look a fool is not fun, trust me. you can placate that by the number of people who have done it to me and may still be...we will have to see :) )

often if you post something which cannot legitimately be refused it is sideblocked by someone else who actually appears to help but doesnt actually answer the request and then that original person will reply to muddy things up still not answering the request --you don't have to believe me but when a number of people start harrassing you (i am not a member of some evil organisation, not someone who spits at people, just an individual, just someone who gets up in the morning, has a bowl of cornflakes and who has tried his whole life to ignore ill feeling against him) please remember this)

to sum up 2nd paragraphs meaning, starting 'you see'- ignore, ignore, provide not what rationally requested, reaction, silent smirk and irrationalise the individual, THIS sentence ............................(with forums when someone posts right after you have posted something you expect a quick reply if you reply because they've just replied to a thread - it happens on other forums I visit- if it doesn't happen, I don't worry but I think its a common tempo thing which causes expectation and happens with forum posting...)

(shame this forum doesn't have EDIT times. would greatly aid things.)

a game is an escape from life for a few minutes...would honestly just like to make friends in a safe environment..i have heard through reviews world of eve is not forgiving so would like to do this safely..api system worries me with the potential for illdoing- that's why I am so keen on it being correct and correct for everyone to see....

have fun reading this, rationalise, put yourself in the other person's boots, ask what if, and enjoy...................

posted enough this individual posting....anything more will be from a reply if and/or when...cfm(checked for mistakes)

There is no cut and paste.

These forums only accept text. No HTML code, just plain unencoded text.

Go to www.eveonline.com, the main page of this site (it's safe), and tell me how you can cut and paste that, in a text-only forum.

I think the OP is referring to copy and paste, which makes no sense. If the information is already there and a link has been provided, why post it again? If the OP is afraid to use a link, then perhaps the internet is not the place for him...

I'm not saying you did it, I'm just saying I'm blaming you.

@Merouk, as ive said im no computer expert but for perhaps those computer illiterate like me how can you post a sentence like that and the next sentence post a link which I thought was html code which others have done too?!

#@Gotta Hairball, yes you could be right. come to think of it, the square wheels on my barn cart are starting to wear. they'll be round soon if I don't watch out ;)
