I have been mulling over the possibility of getting a 2nd account now that I have become a regular incursion runner, and the isk is flowing in by the bucket, but I am at a loss as to what the "Best bang for my buck" is.

Here are the options I have -

1: The power of 2 deal - 3 PLEX worth of isk (if I am reading the offer right), and I can start a 2nd account and get 180 days of game, and that mind implant that makes the new toon Einstein for 30 days.

2: Do the buddy program thing, and after the trial is over, I get that toon plexed up, and get whatever bonus to my main account that that offers.

3: Save my isk for another month or two and buy a ready-made toon on the Bazaar.

The first option seems like the best deal (again, if I am reading it right) -- 180 days for the cost of 3 plex. In 6 months, I can have a scratch toon trained exactly as I want it to be.

Any input from those who manage multiple accts would be appreciated.

My combat alt kept his base stats for a few months, then re-spec'd to Int/Mem to grind support skills, and then Will/Perc to do gunnery/missiles/spaceship command.

Initially, i trained the bare minimum skills that used Will/Perc (Spaceship command and gunnery) in order to fly a Hurricane, Assault Frigates, and Interdictors, with tech2 small and medium autocannons (tech1 artilary).

Re-spec Int/Mem and grind away all the support skills, like your ECM skills, Scanning, Armor/Shield skills, etc etc. Get all the basics/necessities to 5, and then get EVERYTHING else to lvl4 minimum (except mining/industry or whatever you wont use), and then lvl5 a few of your favorites.

2nd Re-spec, this time to Will/Perc and max out your spaceship command, gunnery, missiles. At this stage you should just be falling into new ships, Logistics, Recons, even Carriers, fully prepared to fly them perfectly. (You'll have your capital energy/armor transfer done before you are even flying battleships)

You'll have to wait a year before you can respec again, so you will have at least 1 year to pour as much SP into will/perc skills. This would be a decent time to max out your drone skills. Drone skills have mixed mem/perc attributes, so it doesn't REALLY matter where you train Drones, earlier the better, but dont max them until you have some time to burn. Same goes for navigation, mixed Int/Perc. I would leave Leadership until your 3rd respec, or at least while you are spec'd will/perc, since it uses Cha/Will.

This way your alt can provide you with a scout, cyno beacons, extra pair of guns, with about average skills, while he's maxing out his support. He'll be able to do hack/arch sites for you, salvage for you, etc. You can put him in his battlecruiser and your main char in a Falcon, and go for a roam. After your alts finished training though, you'll probably want to have him in the falcon with his uber support skills ^_^ The only negative is he lacks on the Leadership completely until later on, and his guns/drones are only OK for the first year or so.

This is how i trained my alt, and it was hard at first, but most of that was due to the low SP overall. Stick with it, and its the most efficient way to train a combat/support alt IMO. I'm glad i stuck with the training. It also disciplines you and you learn to enjoy lvl5'ing big skills. You can notice your progress a lot also, each time you finish your ECM, or scanning skills, etc, you notice the difference. Same goes after you've spec'd to will/perc, you REALLY notice the difference when you 're dropping into capital ships within a month or two after this respec

Terminal Insanity basically answered this.

I'd also suggest that first it might help to figure out what sort of alt you want. Maybe a good armor/shield logistics alt would be good? Or leadership trained command ship flying alt? Some people would say there isn't much point to having two of the same type of pilot, but it's up to you.

I'd go with the power of two.

if you plan on entirely PLEX/GTC'ing this account and not paying a dime for it... use buddy invite.

You give your alt buddy invite, he gets 21d, and then PLEX his account. Your main will then recieve a free PLEX/30d also (for a total of 51 free days)

Dont abuse this system though, CCP allows it as long as you intend to keep the alt. If you are making disposable accounts like this they'll probably end up banning you for it

21 days for free, not 51, you are paying with the first PLEX the other 30
vs 180 days in exchange for three PLEXes

If you are keeping the account for more than three months, go with power of two. Didn't you know you can pay power of two with PLEXes, Insanity?

Power of 2 is the better deal, its basicly 3 months worth of subscription + another 3 months free game time. Thats $50 USD, not a bad deal. Buddy trial only gives you 21 days free game time, Pay $20 USD to activate adding 30 days to the account and get a PLEX/Month added on to the main -- Which just covers the activation cost in my opinion. Since you can offer multiple buddy trials, the idea is to invite more people and hope they activate - which could technicly get you a free year of game time but alot more work to invite 12 random individuals. Go with P2 offer, best bang for your buck.

First, decide what you want the alt to be speced for and come up with an EVE mon plan. Then activate the P2 offer (couple of weeks left I think), log in to the new account, randomly hit generate character face, log in, pop that first skill in fill up 24 hours, then go back and make a decent looking face. First couple of days you will be getting alot of basic skills in before you finally have enough time that you not putting in a skill every 2 hours to keep it overclocked. want to respec in the first couple of days as well after enough skills get put in.

I didnt specialize my alt for any specific purpose, but since my main is mostly amarr i figured id train up a minmatar pilot-combat focused. =) Its kind of cool being able to train 2 races at once. Hell also salvage/scan/cyno too if the time comes. Or help in WHs.

What do you want your alt for?

This is what you should ask yourself.

Do you want it to PVP? Do you want a second account to support your main? Do you want to try PI?

Once you answer this question then you should decided which way to go.

I run multiple accounts I keep a couple active for selling chars, and my main 2 accounts for playing with.

The "Power of Two" offer is available for every full account, but it cannot be combined with other offers and is not valid for trial accounts.

Please log into the EVE Online Account Management and click on the "Power of Two" banner. From there on the steps should be straight forward.

If you have difficulties or further questions regarding the "Power of Two" offer, please contact customer support either by email or by filing a petition.

yes 51 free days - you do realize that you get the PLEX back, right?

Null-Sec needs to HTFU and stop crying to CCP. If null-sec wants PvP, they need to stop being carebears and start fighting eachother - after years of bot-mining, they have the ships!

I recently started my power of 2 account and now have my first 2nd account too, its a good deal, you dont need to worry about your account for 6 months.

However I have no idea what to do with this character as a mission runner my main only needs a supporting noctis, thus he has no purpose beyond that

any ideas to help me progress with this new character.

i'd just like to say however for pvp the idea of having a sneaky pilgrim rolling around with my main is quite appealing

I was kinda confused on some of the details of how to do this with plexes purchased in game with isk, so I figure I'll post a step-by-step and what I found

1 buy plexes on account A
2 right click and "return to redeem items"; this brings up a confirmation box "reverse redeem"
3 log into the account mgmt page that CCP phantom linked
4 click the power of 2 banner
5 enter the username for account B (new account, as in doesnt exist yet) and PW
6 click the Plex button on the payment options screen
7 click 2 more confirmation buttons

account A is unchanged, minus 1.5 bil isk (thank you, jita price hikers)
account B is now all ready to go, with 180 days of gametime

all in all pretty easy
