Directional Scanner Uniformity with Probe Scanner (Now with 30 more free pixels!)

With the recent cleanup of the chat box size, It got me thinking about all the other windows full of wasted space.

This is my idea on the directional scanner, equipped with pictures and explanations. It is meant to emulate the pattern of UI uniformity and provide familiarity at the same time.

First: The original Dscan as it is right now in EVE.


Current D-Scan

As it stands, you can either use active overview settings, or no overview settings for EVERY result. This means if you want to change to say 'Show wrecks and belts' You have to go to your overview, which is likely nowhere near your d-scan and select your already configured overview setting that shows wrecks and belts. On larger monitors, that is a trip of 2000+ pixels and about 4 left clicks.

Right clicking on an item in D-scan allows you to 'Remove' that item from the scan, but it also removes it from your overview at the same time. This means to get it back you need to go under your overview filters and select your pre-saved filter again, or worse, go through the entire check box menu and save a new overview filter. Tons of wasted time.

There is also lots of wasted space that takes up precious pixels on our already stressed interface. Any amount of pixels saved in EVE is always GOOD!

Uniform D-Scan v2
Uniform D-Scan Filter Creation 1.0

QUICK ACCESS D-SCAN FILTERS - Now you can save filters just like scan probing but for ships, wrecks, structures, etc. An instant drop down menu would access said filters. We already have this to a degree, but it relies and pulls from the Overview. The button for D-scan filters could be linked to the overview filters, thus allowing instant access to all your preset filters without travelling across the screen to load them. Uniformity of D-Scan and Overview.

D-SCAN IMPORT / EXPORT - Scan filters could be imported and exported, just like the overview does now. This would allow FC's to share only the results they are interested in with their scouts. Again, if D-Scan shared the overview filters, including 'States', this would be easy to implement.

FOCUS ON ONLY WHAT IS NEEDED - Right clicking on an item in the directional scan allows you to ignore the result, or ignore all other results. CCP could also add the ability to 'Ignore Type' so you could instantly ignore all capsules or scan probes if the scanner gets too cluttered during combat. One could go a step further and allow filtering of friendly vs hostile ships from D-Scan. Again... if overview filters and D-Scan filters were shared... you see the pattern.

RAPID DISTANCE SELECTION - One of THE BIGGEST reasons for this change... Distances could be built into filters, and be adjusted via a second tab inside the filter setup. Distances could get their own drop down menu on the D-Scan. This would eliminate typing in a rather long number each time you want a new scan range. Instead of 1 left click and several keyboard clicks, it takes 2 left clicks to go from 14AU to 1AU, 5AU to 4AU, etc. Reduced clicking in EVE is also GOOD.

SAVED PIXELS! - Yes it also reduces pixel usage by about 30 horizontally. This may not sound like a lot but for those running smaller resolutions, 30 saved out of 768 is a big number!

I like it.

Not sure that there needs to be another data set. Allwoing the d-scan to use an overview scheme seperate from the one being used by the overview would be perhaps simpler to implement. You can kind of get the same behavior now with an overview tab, but still a clunky work around.

States would be very handy, though is that information that is 'too perfect'? Open to debate.
