PIrates stealing mission loot..

So after a looooong absence I came back awhile ago. Just now I had the first instance of someone coming into one of my missions and stealing loot. Now...normally I'm not much a looting guy...but it was highly annoying to watch this Magnate go around and loot all willy nilly. Eventually I decided to go for it and well...very very long story short I'm now 300 mill and a set of implants shorter than I was before.

I was thinking though during the whole ordeal that CCP has created a no lose situation really. A pirate can show up and loot at will with no threat of Concord? I seem to recall Concord showing up if you even sneezed wrong. So then it's basically down to the missioner to decide, can I kill this guy or will he just bring friends?(which is what happened to me.)

It's not a whine, **** happens. I should have just blown up my ship like I was going to and I would have come out ahead of what I ended up. I just don't get this sytem, it was in a .9, level 4 mission. I have to say I'm damn tempted to just go around my usual missioning systems with my own Magnate or hell even my Hound and just loot peoples crap. I feel like CCP has tied the "good guy's" hands on this system.

Ahhh well...live and learn...EVE is a cruel mistress..

Edit:

Any tips on how to avoid this in the future? Do you guys run with stabs in the lows or any other gear that might help a missioning ship deal with a tech 2 frig quickly enough before friends show up? I was in a normal Raven with tech 2 cruises, but being that I'm still poorish and haven't been back in a long time only brought t1 drones and used t1 missles. Had tech 2 shield stuff though.

I'll tell you this up front.

If they are in your mission (anomalies are a different story), taking your stuff, then it's because they know they can take you in a straight up fight. And even if it doesn't seem like they can, they have backup.

So don't even bother with it. Don't get annoyed, don't try to take a potshot at them with your faction battleship, nothing.

Ignore the problem, and it goes away.

Furthermore, no, CONCORD has never shown up for ninja looting, not in my memory anyway.

"Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

One of ours, ten of theirs.

Best Meltdown Ever.

Loot in missions isn't that good anyway, blitz the missions for bounty and LP and let the ninja looters have a field day, everyone wins.

It is remarkable how few people have this problem.

Something to think about.

hardly a no lose situation, if they don't shoot at you then you just wasted a ton of time looting crap.

go back to not caring about loot, when they show up abandon all nearby wrecks and they usually run off since they know you wont play their game.

With the new crimewatch they become a suspect and can be attacked by anyone. Which could include a squad of your friends in actual PvP ships.

So in fact, the situation was worse before, i.e. before your loooong absence, only you could have attacked the thief, the difference being that now that was your choice, while back then it was your only option.

Don't run missions in big trade or mission hubs.

Go somewhere else, find a good 0.5 system with an agent that has an 2000 ISK/lp item in it's shop.

Quite easy:

- Don't shoot at suspect in PvE ship.

- Don't shoot in general (even PvP ship) if you don't have friends as backup. Some groups have more than five remote repairers and it's going to be hard for you to bring them down.

- Abandon all wrecks.

- OR shoot the wrecks and send them the following this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5QGkOGZubQ. Don't get annoyed by the people taking loot : ).

...and remember that once you've got good station/ships/skills, not salvaging or looting most missions actually improves your ISK/hour.

Of course you never know when it is going to happen, but if your in the situation again, call up your Mission friends and fleet them, have them bring some points and webs, Don't Shoot Him let your friends pick up the easy killmail in ships fitted for the job and keep doing your thing in your ship fitted for your job. E-war is particularly fun in these situations especially Jamming Drones (It's pretty easy to fit 5 or these on most mission ships).

Alternatively you can change your ship to PVP and learn to deal with mission spawns in a Buffer fit with webs and point, but it will drastically affect your ISK/HR.

Things that keep me up at night;  Why do we use a voice communication device to send telegraphs? Moore's Law should state, Once you have paid off the last PC upgrade you will need another.

Different though when the 'thieves' are going after mission specific loot - I.E. - COSMOS items, and then holding for ransom.

Didn't even know the twit had boosted ahead of me and got specific ship down, looted then convo'd me, saying for 500 mil i could have my item (COSMOS rewards 1+ Bil for this certain mission(Loot)), ISK aside, I'm more doing this for standings so i can get a POS up and running.

A lot would think ''just pay the guy'' 500mil profit is still profit, but I'm not giving in to someone who thinks it's Ok to act like that, all day every day. You don't get rich by submitting to the whim of every madman in the galaxy :P

Sorry for the Hijack Rant lol, but it seemed appropriate to post it here :P

when this happens to me i usually take a few minutes to play cat and burning mouse with the ninja looter. that is i target the wreck he is about to loot and kill it as soon as he is 3000m away. not only does he get blueballed, he does not even get any trash loot to compensate for wasting his time.

I should buy an Ishtar.

If a pirate comes for your loot it's because he wants to gank you.. PERIOD.

If someone enters my mission and starts picking loot/salvaging i just blow all the wrecks. I don't get a profit but pirate doesn't either: loot or gank. This way you collect their tears, some of them will try to convo you to 'get a deal'..lol

Usually they understand the message and will ignore you afterwards, because their time was wasted.

Funny, cause that's exactly what I do. I once had a guy from Suddenly Ninjas go absolutely ballistic after that. Of course I never saw him again.

Thanks for the tips guys, like I said not whining, just incredibly annoying and topping it off with all the losses I incurred from their "ransom ways" it was a frustrating night if not a "welcome back to EVE" night heh.

In hisec the most powerful weapon you have in your arsenal is...as others have alluded...boredom.

Be incredibly boring to them and they will actively avoid you.

During hisec wardecs that means leaving your toon logged in when sleeping, working etc.

When a ninja salvager comes along don't shoot your wrecks, just ignore him (or abandon your wrecks - though I would say not because that is an 'interaction' with them)

DOn't talk to them.

Be very boring.

This is excellent. Basically beat them at their own game. Might even get some laughs or garner some rage tears from the Ninja. Either way you win.
