What happens when you get pod-killed?

There is a tutorial on clone management, but it is only about 5 panels long and isn't very informative. How does it all work? What happens when I get pod-killed, and how do I ensure that my skill points remain intact? Any advice or reading material would be great, because the tutorial for this is pretty poor.

Check your skill amount against the amount the clone covers for, if it's lower you're OK. But remember if you are podded you'll lose any implants.

Can you control where your clone respawns?

Yes. Look for stations with medical facilities. You can move your med clone, for a modest fee, to any of them.

To be more precise: In any station with medical facilities, when opening the medical bay (the same one you use when you upgrade your clone), there is the option to move your medical clone. This will give you a list of stations to chose from. The fee is very small (5600 ISK I think).

Also, important: after you get pod-killed, when you awaken in your new clone, you "used" that one and your medical clone gets reset to the most basic one which only covers 900k SP. So the first thing you should do after getting pod-killed is to upgrade your clone again.

Also you get to try not to think about all the depraved things the person who podded you is now doing with the frozen corpse you left behind......

I have deliberately developed an air of cynicism that I originally intended to make me appear somewhat louche and caddish but actually comes across as irritable hostility combined with the unspoken threat of sudden violence.....

In high or low sec it's very hard to pod someone who knows what to do. If your ship is about to explode (your tank is broken and you hit structure) select a gate/station/planet/whatever and spam warp to it. As soon as your ship goes boom you will warp your pod away before it gets locked. This isn't 100% foolproof and there are ways to catch a pod before it can escape so always remember to update the clone and don't use implants you aren't comfortable loosing but it will save ya in most situations.

For clarity, everyone's talking about medical clones here (the ones you can upgrade). Jump Clones are a different thing, so keep that in mind while googling on this topic.

Newbie asks what happens when he gets podded... no one trolls and instead give good answers.

This is both disappointing and heartening at the same time.

Actually, you have to get podded to level up. It's rumored (I've never known someone to actually pull it off) if you get podded 20 times in 10 minutes, you gain an extra level.

There you go ShahFluffers. ;D

Seriously though, for future ships, the only exception to the medical clone skillpoint limit is with Tech III ships. E.g. If you get blown up in say, a Legion, (not podded mind you) you will lose skillpoints from one of the appropriate racial subsystem skills. This happens no matter what and cannot be stopped with upgrading a clone, nor (if I remember correctly) can this be stopped by ejecting from your Tech III ship before it is destroyed.

For literally every other ship and your pod, so long as your medical clone is higher than your current skillpoints, you're a-ok. Also keep in mind, with longer skills that you may come across in the future (20-50 day skills, etc.) your displayed current skillpoints in your character sheet may be lower than your actual, as it may be weeks before it's updated with a skill completion.

CCP doesn't like us when we troll people in NCQA. That's why they gave us GD.
