If you want more people to mine...

Setting aside for a moment that I don't really think they want more people to mine — we've got more minerals than we ever need anyway…

…they should just outright steal the mining minigame from Galaxy on Fire: it's basically a game of “keep the crosshairs in the right spot” where different mining lasers and different ores make them slide off the juicy centre of the asteroid at different speeds. The better the laser, the easier it is to control. As you keep mining, the size of the mine:able area shrinks (which is why you want to keep the laser centred) and if you can stay with it long enough, you start to extract more valuable version of the ore (in EVE terms, you go from just veldspar to concentrated or dense veldspar). Stray outside the mine:able zone, and the laser starts overheating and eventually (quite quickly) shuts off. In GoF, it also destroys the asteroid, but that might be a bit much.

The main obstacle for doing something similar in EVE is that it's quite twitch:y, which makes connection speed and quality an issue (because, as always, you can't trust the client).

Now something like that sounds like a good idea to me, would also be nice to see planetary ring mining as a higher risk version of mining, have it filled with stupid amounts of asteroids that are in motion (making using an ore scanner much more important) and a DoT effect (Damage Over Time) caused by micro asteroid impacts and dust abrasions against the shields/armour of your ship (the more damaging planetary ring areas that could be found as gravametric sites could have a small chance of containing the more rare ores like current gravametric sites do).

Combine this with the changes suggested by Tippia and a slight change to exhumers to give them a higher resistance to this kind of damage and we have a new and slightly more exiting mining profession

As it stands, mining is the most boring thing in a game that, community aside (and I do love my EVE, don't get me wrong) is pretty boring.

Give us EXPLOSIONS.

Give us SURPRISE ROIDS

Give us EXPLOSIONS!! (bears repeating)

Give us NON-BORING MINING!

(By surprise roids I mean something along the lines of roids that explode but drop insane amounts of high-end mins, or the roid version of a faction spawn, or...something...)

The best part of ratting is that you never know when you're gonna get that beyond-shiny officer spawn. People live for officer spawns.

In contrast...if you mine a belt that is filled with veldspar, all you're gonna get from it is...veldspar. There's no oppurtunity for surprise, nothing that makes it fun...nor is it even particularly rewarding in terms of isk/hour. It is in fact less fun than other things (like ratting) which makes more iskies.
How is that logical?

So here is my advice to CCP.

Revamp mining completely.

Also, instead of taking high-ends out of wormholes, add low-ends to nullsec! If you want us to be self-sufficient in nullsec, make it so that its possible to get tritanium without going to empire for it.

Behold, my two isk.

Lol

CCP Soundwave (hold on a sec while I take care of the churning bile in my gut after dropping this guys name) has declared that he likes mining as is and doesn't want to change it. Good luck championing this cause. I'm with you, but I'm not holding out much hope. (Information gleaned from his Twitter account.)

Whether or not you win the game matters not.  It's if you bought it.

i would rather they spend time trying to get rid of bots than trying to make mining more fun.

Making mining more fun would do ALOT to fix the bots... The more interaction something requires, the worse a bot can do it(unless you think they have somehow managed to develop true AI, and the only place its in use is video game bots)

Mining is boring and unrewarding..... because of bots ;(
At the moment the only real way to have "fun" by mining is have multiple accounts, and eventually even produce stuff from it. Honestly..

I could cope up with that no problem, but when you see you get an average income of say 30 millions per hour max with a all V hulk and mindlinked all V rorqual, mining rare ore in priority, in nullsec...

And that on the other hand, i could take a logistics and go run Incursions in highsec on blitz fleets for 150 millions per hour, with a third the money investement, and no hauling / reprocessing / deep nullsec logistics / sovwarfare concerns / without risk, man
Well in fact, i do.

This just isnt right, and it's at least 80% because of bots wrecking minerals prices.
On the other hand, because of how EVE has gone now, i really feel like the economy would be so wrecked the game would have to close if bots stopped.... and i'm not talking about loss of subscription and CCP, just about ingame economy.

Missing the point.

I dont want other people to splode me, although they are welcome to try.

I want the roids to splode. Do they esplode in null? no.

What motivation does CCP have to remove bots? Ruined economy?

Think about this for a minute... and please correct this if I am wrong. CCP makes more profit from higher game time card (GTC) sales. Lower isk value of GTC = more profit for CCP. Macro/bot miners flood the market with minerals keeping the price of minerals low, therefore keeping the value of GTC low = more profit for CCP.

Did I miss something? If not CCP has zero motivation to eliminate macro/bot players, whether they mine/other.
