Best options for learning Russian?

Not sure if this belongs in Out of Pod.

Spending a lot of time in space majority populated by people who speak Russian by default.
Obviously they're flexible and use whatever gives an advantage, I see Mediterranean and North African languages mixed in there too when it suits.
From the other side, they're not always able to translate intent.

Short of spending 6 months in Eurasia is there any useful conversational translational tools or training?

Also you may want to check out your local university(if higher education is free in your country) and take a course or two.

Unfortunately I don't have the time for higher education.
I'm looking more for a "quick and dirty" option, more quick, less dirty.
