Lets talk about what it cost CCP. A few hours of code and some slight testing. So in the long run virtually nothing.

Click launcher, game updates.

Click steam, game updates.

Spot the difference.

See the diff between that and what I want is the following.

Click on launcher, play the game

Click on steam play the game.

Any product has to obey a few rules: one is let the user pick their update choices.

I have 100mbit internet and a nice computer, but if I'm in LFR in WoW, on my healer, and the tank HP is ping ponging like mad, I don't want a patch that installs which kills the tank in the process.

That's bad mojo if it was an EvE update while playing WoW; or a WoW update while playing EvE.

There's a time and place for everything...it's not while in a critical spot while gaming.

the difference is that one sentence is wrong while the other is not? :o
we have auto update, it updates automatically. what you want is to play the game before it even updated, which is ridiculous, it doesnt work that way, you cant play something before you have the data for it.................

if you want that steam updates the game client so the launcher doesnt have to, yes that should be possible and be done but everything else is just a troll request....

No, I'd rather they spent their development time on something more worthwhile to me.

I want the thing to check for an update by itself. Then, download and install the update itself on it's on.

Lets say I leave my computer on during the day and a update comes out during the day. When I come to my computer at night the update will already be up and installed so all I have to do is login and that's it. I'm not asking for magic. I'm asking for the exact same thing that happens with your anti virus, smart TV, phones, tablets, OS on your computer, PS3, and so on.

I'm not going to lie. It sounds like you're trying to be a troll, and I'm just trying to make everything super clear for the developers. You say you don't care if this comes out, but now you say you do since you see it as a waste of time to develop. I could be a jerk and say which is it. But, I want everything to be clear.

Are you trying to say you don't care one way or the other for this feature. But, at the same time you prefer the developers to work on something better?

AGAIN, YOU MUST TURN ON THE LAUNCHER TO GET THE UPDATE. YOU CAN"T JUST TURN IT ON AND RUN. I'M ASKING FOR SOMETHING THAT RUNS IN THE BACKGROUND. WHEN YOU AREN'T PLAYING.

Does your phone just have the next version of it's OS? NO. It auto updates in the background and then you get it.

So lets say you use your computer for research, school, work, etc. Then when you aren't playing the game the game will auto update.

I don't know why it's so hard to understand

You just said "No my phone requires me to accept the update." Come on. That's not being a troll?

I'm not talking to you anymore because you 1 don't understand what an auto update is. And 2 you are now being a troll. (IDK if you were when you first said something)

One thing I pointed out in my video is you have to wait for 5 min for the update to download and install. Sometimes it can take up to 15 min. (Worst if it's a big update)
If we had an auto update then we can just login and play without waiting for the update to get done.

Get a better internet service provider.

Also we cant play before a patch is finished because the game wont work until you have the new stuff.

To OP:
1. Waaah, 15 mins to download a patch. If you're that concerned, just plan ahead. If I want to play a game, I'll start it earlier and go do something else until it's finished patching. Can people really not stand to wait 15 mins? Go do laundry or something, sheesh. Play a board game with the family. Write a book on first world problems. Try waiting 15 hours to download Assassin's Creed 3, and another 4 for more patches and troubleshooting, and having no ability to do anything else on the internet while you're doing that. Roll
2. Eff no, I don't want a (mandatory) auto update feature. I have enough issues with Steam borking my horrible internet randomly throughout the day, and also destroying my carefully crafted, heavily modded Skyrim Lol. Even tried turning it off for Skyrim and it didn't work ( Evil ). I'd rather sit and wait for an update when I want to play a game to be sure the patch doesn't ruin something else.
3. My horrible internet. I live in the mountains, I have no access to broadband except during the lucky times I can hitch a ride into town or when I go off to college. Most people here still have dialup, not because they don't want anything else, but because no provider sees profit in building a line.

Perhaps my tune will change when I get broadband, but probably not. I can stand to wait a few seconds while a patch downloads. Autopatchers can be convenient, but are completely unnecessary and can frequently be a pain.

I like to lick things.

Haunting the forums since 03.

Who said anything about a mandatory thing. I think it must come with a opt out feature. It would suck to have this if you have some limited net

Do you think CCP should add automatic updates to EVE Online since all updates are mandatory to play the game?
