Hello, I went into a hideaway and got my ship destroyed, tried to get the stuff I lost with the ship you get as a default and got destroyed again. I've given up on the stuff I lost but am wondering what I should do ship wise?

I don't know a whole lot about ships, and I have 2.4M ISK to spend on a new ship or on upgrading the default one. My inventory is completely empty, since I lost all the my stuff with the executioner so other than ISK i don't have a lot.

I've noticed that you can jump to different place to get a better price on some ships, but since I don't know what to get I don't know where to go. I would like something that has a very beefy defence, since I died pretty easily in my executioner.

I hated beginning in EvE as everything is overwhelming but if you'd like feel free to send me a message in game and when I get home from work in about 2 hours or so I can give you a hand if you like.

make sure you go do the career agents

All the starting missions of those lines can be done in one of those free rookie ships. As you progress you'll be given several ships. Do the Military and then Advanced Military.

By the end you'll have gotten another executioner, a punisher, and a coercer.

The quick answer is Punisher :)

But you really have to finish advanced military tutorial to get a destroyer.
What is important is that no ships will give you serious advantage - it is what you put into them , makes the difference between life and ... life in escape pod. Even destroyer can be killed very quickly in level 1 missions by NPC if you do not pay attention.

Look at the market, find another executioner in the Ships, Frigates, Amarr Frigate category. They're only a few hundred k.

Or, look at the other Amarr frigates. Click the blue ? show info button, read their stats.

Brief tutorial on ships:

- The market is where everything is, so it's also an encyclopedia of information, you don't have to buy stuff, you can just click info buttons and read up on item descriptions and stats.

- Ships have multiple slots: High slots, and number of turret / missile hardpoints, determine the weapons you can put in. Medium slots let you put in Afterburner (for speed), shields, and/or capacitor energy modules. Low slots let you put in armor repairers and defenses, as well as a variety of modules that can increase damage, affect the capacitor, or increase cargo, agility, etc.

- Ships also have armor, shields, and hull hitpoints, but you should never install both shield AND armor modules; pick one and maximize it. Amarr ships typically use armor, so plan on getting a Small Armor Repairer and perhaps some armor modules such as Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane, 100mm or 200mm Plates, Armor Hardeners, etc. Reserve the low slots for armor, reserve the mid slots for Afterburner and capacitor modules.

- 1mn Afterburner will increase your speed quite a bit. Cap Recharger I will help with having enough juice to repair yourself and shoot the lasers. Train the skills required to install these modules.

- For weapons, Amarr ships use lasers and sometimes missiles. For lasers, Pulse lasers are short range, Beam lasers are long range. Look at the market in the Small Laser Turret category. The ship's Power Grid and CPU stats will limit how much you can fit into it, even if you have available slots. Train Engineering and Electronics skills high to increase these two stats to fit more into your ships.

- Decide on a strategy: short range or long range. With an afterburner and armor repairer with resistances, short range is sweet, Pulse lasers do more damage than Beams. NPCs also have a tendency to gun for you and stay at short range. For PVP against players, you may want longer range, with Heat Sink I in the low slots for extra damage instead of armor resistance modules. You'll also need Webifier and Warp Disruptor in the mid slots to keep your PVP targets from running away.

- Considering all of the above, and looking at the slots for the Executioner and the Punisher, you can kinda see how the Executioner is a fast attack ship, with good speed and decent weapons but fewer low slots for armor defenses, and the Punisher is a main combat ship with slower speed but more slots for a proper defense, and ok weapons.

Then buy your ship, fit it, and go shoot things. Also buy a spare ship for if your current one gets destroyed. Fit it the same.

Do the tutorials, all of them...then to the Sister's of EVE arc. You will get free stuff and plenty of ISK to start off.
For level one missions, I enjoyed my punisher.

Evelopedia also has all kinds of useful guides on the many topics related to EVE. You might be particularly interested in the ones on armor and armor tanking if you take the earlier advice and go for a punisher.
