Can we turn off the new jump animation?

This thread is only going to grow in momentum.

It is really getting annoying when i come to a gate now.... the spinning and the zooming. Once was ok, ten times was cool...

It's too much for a simple gate jump.

How about just for regional gates??

Anyone joining this thread late should probably go back and read it from the start. Lots has happened. Let me recap a few points that I've found interesting so far. I hope someone else will chime in and recap stuff that I missed. This is only my take.

1. Lots of people have complained that they either don't like or can't really watch the new animation. Null- and low-sec pilots find it especially annoying. Carebears tend to use F10.

2. There was evidence earlier on in the thread that CCP got plenty of negative feedback during the SiSi testing phase and simply ignored it. I think the litany of negative comments about the animation is somewhere around page 16 of the thread. You might want to ask why they bother testing stuff if they ignore the feedback. But anyway...

2. Some preliminary post-graduate work was found suggesting that virtual reality could cause motion sickness. No specific empirical work has been done by CCP or anyone else on this effect yet. We've had some entertaining sarcasm about 'sudden epidemics' though.

3. Someone with lots of relevant experience in video game design suggested that the code involved in the animation is deeply nested within the EVE program so it may be non-trivial to fix. That sucks since it means that even if the pro-choice side is right, it might take until the next expansion before we can play the game again.

4. Lots of really cool primate dominance displays were performed. Fun was had by all.

Happy reading! :)

I know. I'm trying to be charitable here mate. Smile

To he honest, I suspect what's actually deeply embedded is not so much the code as the influence of the arts design team on where EVE is supposed to go in the future.

I'm kinda against the jump thing. I personally didn't see a need for it and it brings zero real value so I'd have preferred development to be aimed elsewhere.

Neither here nor there but Freelancer did this jump thing and I have to say; did it far better:

the jump animation only lasts about 2 seconds anyhow with a good pc there's no problem with it

people are trolling for sake of trolling

if they really got motion sickness then they'd be whining about

turn off orbiting movements
turn off warping between areas
turn off ship movements
turn off zooming in to planets for PI

all ships should sit static and when they move they should teleport instantly and stop

no forward momentum at all.

lol... trolls are good at whining...

I have a problem with motion sickness in real life, I take meclizine when I travel

but this game doesn't cause motion sickness... if it did the players would be sick 100% of the time they played unless they stayed docked.

the warp between asteroid belts or to gates take longer than jumping animation does from system to system. the jumpgate animation from system to system lasts as long as it takes to load the next system. On a good pc that's about 2 seconds... You can't get motion sickness in 2 seconds.

Go troll elsewhere

the jump animation is wicked awesome, reminds me of dr who... I guess those people will petition BBC to change the intro to Dr Who next... whiners are so funny

Dude, I play on a workstation with a professional graphics card. So no.

Maybe some of those hackers who created the autopilot to zero thing could come up with something.

+1 for option to turn it off.
+2 get rid of the bobbing up and down effect. really silly after all these years of letting us be stationary. (yep another one of those 1% that get motion sickness from games.)

Leave the animation, let us turn off the camera movement. Or change it to "snap to" instead of spin like a drunken sailor.

Ditto on the auto camera pointing at a target. Logi and missions with swarms of drones are just beyond annoying now.

my .02 isk.

At first I thought it was no big deal, but when jumping more than a few systems, the warp/jump effect become tedious and very distracting, especially when trying to get through low and null where I need to have the most situational awareness. An option to turn this off would be very welcome.

I cannot understand why all of these new camera spin, bob, and weave effects are necessary and makes me think they only came about because someone needed to show a manager that work was being done.

There's a million angry citizens looking down their tubes..at me.

Was in a 250 man capital fleet last night and the main issue I have is how the jump effects bring my computer to a snail's pace. The performance is way worse than what it used to be.

CCP are stupid if they ignored the negative comments i personly like the animation but it is geting old but they need to add the option to turn it off if they dont want it

Prefer the feel of being shot across New Eden, instead of being spat into some whirly hole and plopping out the other end.

+1 for off ability

Oh, bad troll is really bad.

This new gate animation SEQUENCE is actually much longer than 2 seconds. I didn't clock it, but it felt more like 15 secs per jump was added.

The only slow part of the old jump gate was the handshake to go from one zone to another. On a good computer after the handshake it was about 2 seconds.

Where CCP went wrong here is the design itself: mundane and routine activities should never have their time increased to even do the job. Design 101. The eye candy and special effects are for activities that make them special and stand out (where they can appreciated with the full attention of the players).

Blizzard still goes overboard in that department as well, when they turn up some spell effect that could literally blind a raid. Or pretty effects that totally hides objects (e.g., weapon enchants being so opaque and bright, no point in showing a weapon).

Flaw? They're really not means testing features. If they did the player input would show them to tune down or even scrap some things due to medical issues...before it goes on live servers.

This shows "We like it, so what?" creep instead of "lets be practical".

This is the stuff QA has to ferret out and devs fix before going live. It's that simple, as it takes away the pleasure of the very thing they wish to add or improve.

Like the cyno effects added recently. Or the jump to a cyno. Those didn't seem to lag us out or cause any other issues. I think that it was a cool basic enhancement, unlike the gate and bobbing that were added.

In the utter absence of any newer response by CCP, I can only assume that this is the definitive, official response. I will be cancelling my subscription this weekend.
