Hi.

I found a list of packed sized of ships and found out, that capsule, packed, takes as much room as packed frigate. So I wonder if I can somehow pack capsule and put it into cargo hold of some ship. If yes - can I select active ship then ? Or even undock?

Interesting also the fact, that Strategic Cruiser takes less place than cruiser...

You do know you can't leave your capsule right.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

You can't leave your capsule, that's death. For all intents and purposes you ARE your capsule. Whatever ship your capsule is in, you are in it. You cannot package the ship you are in, or the capsule, the menu option is not present.

Packaged ships CAN be transported in the cargo space of other ships, but even if you eject the ship in space, it ejects in a cargo container, and cannot be used as a ship. You have to use a station's services to assemble the ship into a flyable ship.

Notice how when you buy ships from the market they come packaged and you can't enter them, you must assemble them first? You can't use ships that aren't assembled.

So that's basically the deal, if they are packaged you can transport ships in Industrial or Freighter cargo space, but cannot use them as ships until they are assembled. The option to transport is there for manufacturers and traders, so they can bring ships to Jita, Dodixie, and other markets where there are high sales.

That is because the Strategic Cruiser is actually a multiple part ship, so the main hull is smaller than a cruiser when packaged since it's missing it's main sections.

You cant leave your capsule. So there is no way to get one that you can transport and it would be totally useless anyway.

A Capsule can be aquired if another corpmember biomasses, then his capsule appears in the corphangar and can be transferred into the private hangar. It can even be boarded which simply makes it disappear. I seem to recall it cannot be put into a ships´ hangar and thus cannot be moved.
That was some time ago, though, so it might have changed.

I still have 1 or 2 empty capsules... can't remember how you could get one... but it was around 2004-2005, when I still had most of my memories.

I'm going to guess that this list is an artifact of object oriented programming. Since the capsule, for all intensive purposes, can act like a ship (dock, undock, warp, etc) then it probably is inherited from the same class that also includes the ability to repackage and fit in the cargo hold.

This. Also, the Orca can transport a limited amount of assembled ships. The ship maintenance bay in the Orca can carry 40,000m3 of assembled ships, and fleet members can even get in / switch to them / store them in the Orca while in space (if the Orca pilot sets the bay permission level). Handy.
