Hello, I am creating a alliance logo and I have some questions regarding the rules of the logos.

Starting with the rules on the wiki page we know:
• The first stage is by Community:
• Check the image for correct specifications
• Review for Copyrighted material
• Inappropriate Content
•Look and feel of EVE Online


Regarding those rules, my questions are as follows:
As too the image size specifications, I am designing them in 128x128 pixels rather then designing at say 1280x1024 pixels and scaling down too 128x128. I noticed the definition of the alliance logos on TCU when you zoom in closely, and thus I am concerned that the 128x128 that i design it in will look pixelated while looking at the alliance logo on a TCU.

2nd question as it related to copyrighted material. Usage of various fonts fall within this category of copyrighted (unlicensed use)? Also do pictures of...say bridge for example, pulled off google images, count as copyrighted material breach of this rule?

3rd question regarding inappropriate content. Does a beer bottle count as inappropriate content (alcohol reference)?

4th question is too the parameters of Look and feel of EVE Online. I have seen many alliance logos and looking at the logo from a non gaming perspective, a person of no knowledge of EVE won't necessarily know the logo belongs to a video game, or a sci-fy game.


Thank you for taking the time to address these questions. I know you might say its just a logo. But i don't want to submit a logo and have it rejected and have to deal with that redesigning process. Get it right the first time is my plan.

Hi there OP. While I'm not a CCP rep, I do know a little bit about design process, and I think I might can help.

1. I'll echo Ace, design in Vector, so you can size it down without losing the definition.

2. Fonts can have license requirements attached to them. If you're using something that's not known open, check to make sure you have permission to use the font. This is even more important when it comes to pictures you find online. It may be in GIS, but that doesn't cancel copyright. Get permission.

3. I doubt a generic bottle with "XXX" on it would count as inappropriate. Using a specific brand label and all would fall under #2 though.

4. I think is the loosest on enforcement. Look at TEST and Goons for a prime example. Keep it somewhat in-EVE, and you'll be fine.



If I might suggest, rather than try to assemble a clipart looking thingee...see if any of your alliance mates have artistic leanings, and let them draw you an original work. Solves all copyright problems right there. Make SURE you get official signed and notarized transfer of copyright on it though, to avoid drama issues.

Like maybe a skull with a tribal tattoo on it's forhead with DAGGERS orbiting around it oh man that sounds sweet.
