Every weapon system can gain benefits from skill hard wiring implants to boost certain stats. Drones however do not have implants. Seeing how it is a dedicated and widely used weapon system. I began to wonder why there are no implants that give them a boost to damage, control range, speed, optimal / falloff, etc. Does anyone else find this strange or working as intended?

I don't understand Drones are the only weapon system that isn't capable of hitting 1000 dps... They are the most limited in range making them the least viable to be sniper capable. Are the only system that can be disabled by simply targeting and killed off. Defender missiles don't count as you can shoot another volley... Worst of all they are the only weapon system that doesn't receive any benefit at all from boosts.

Just take a second to consider drones are a weapon system that gets zero outside assistance other than ship mods. Working as intended my ass.

Drone implants would be awesome though, there's really no reason not to implement them. CCP should have just thrown into one of the expansions.

Hopefully CCP will add some when/if they ever get around to working on the drone UI and such. Not holding my breath ofc, cuz there is no telling when they will be addressed.

There is no reason why we shouldn't have Drone Implants. CCP has stated that they intend to give Drones a serious pass over, but it's unclear how soon, and unlikely it'll happen before they're 100% done with Tiericide, which they have a long way to go with. I also agree that although Drones are considered a Primary Weapon system they are in fact the only Primary Weapon system that cannot achieve 1000 DPS and the only Primary Weapon system that are destructible. Yes Sentries make most parts of PvE cake (except Incursion, but that's ok). Sentries are also almost OP in PvP for Ishtar/Domi (now Geddon) Alpha fleets.

Light Drones are also the only way the some-most players fielding Torp BS's can kill Frigates, even at max Missile skills. That accounts for PvE and PvP both, hell an AF can tank a Torp BS even webbed/painted. So there is certainly a benefit to having Drones with good skills in Eve and CCP even admits Drones need work. They started in Odyssey with the changes to the T1 Domi and the NVexor (Geddon didn't get a unique Drone bonus). So lets hope that they continue to improve on, at the very least, true Drone boats and give what most in Eve will contest to much needed love for a Primary Weapon system in Eve Online.

Drones lacking in a lot of things is what strictly discourages me from training them for any reason other than frigate killing.

Psst.. hey man... can I, ugh, get some of what ur smokin? Sentry Drones do NOT have a base damage of 450 DPS. Their base (using Garde II's at LvL 5) is 300 DPS for any ship that can field (5) of them that ISN'T a Drone boat which has a bonus to Drone damage. Now lets do a little bit of that whole MATH thing.


BASE DAMAGES (unbonused ship + LvL 5 skills)

Ogre II (5) = 315 DPS

Garde II (5) = 300 DPS

Large Neutron Blaster II (8) = 433 / 472 / 606 DPS - Null / AM / Void

Large 425mm Railgun II (8) = 213 / 320 / 373 DPS - Spike / AM / Javelin

800mm Repeating Artillery II (8) = 317 / 346 / 444 DPS - Barrage / EMP L / Hail

1400mm Howitzer Artillery II (8) = 179 / 269 / 314 DPS - Tremor / EMP L / Quake


It's REALLY sad when 1400's can have higher base damage then Sentries and as much as Ogres. I won't even go into the difference in Volley (alpha strike). When a full bank of Blasters can do almost 100% more base damage than Heavy Drones do and ALL long range guns do 2-8 times the volley while also out dps'ing our Sentries there's an obvious problem. Now, some would argue that's because we still get to put guns/missiles on those Drone boats and I'd agree, so remove them entirely I say or at least drop those ships down to 2-4 turret hardpoints. Give drone ships an additional bonus for the lack of or fewer Highslot weapons like RR bonus to Drones or more control range, etc, and give those ships a bigger bonus to Drone HP so they don't go splat as quickly.

To make things worse, many of those gun/missile ships can STILL launch (5) Heavy/Sentry Drones while having Implants that make their primary weapon system even more over the top in comparison to Drones.

this basically...


keeping it in the famliy I have eft'd using the FHC mod files(since no officiial release from eft peeps yet) and the new sentry domi versus its rail mega relatives....and domi is looking prettty damn good to me.

It has dps and OPTIMAL in point of fact either vanilla or navy mega would like to have (I can get similar optimal...but neither boat is tanking worth a damn to get it). And these mega's would be your gun snipers for gallente. Mega ammo was CN AM. Spike is a dps drop as is uranium and plutonium.


I chose rails as drones are LR/MR weapons. they jsut happen to shoot well at SR too. 68 km's optimal is not SR....(at level 5 with reasonable mod fitting).


CCP is not giving max skill uber fit blaster boat of doom strikes from pure drone use. that level of damage is their tradeoff for barely being able to shoot 3 feet past the barrel lol.

Seriously though, it is something people were complaining for a long time and when CCP finally did something about it, it was an officer mod... At least we have drone mods at all, because they appeared not that long time ago.

Still we need faction DDAs. Deadspace, well, probably not so much as there are no deadspace damage mods at all IIRC.
