Player Features and Ideas Discussion

On occasion CCP will redesign ship a model for various reasons. Here is my idea for leaving both the old models along with the new ones in game.

For example, if they redesign the Raven we should be able to see/keep the previous model and the new model on the battlefield. As a result of keeping the old models a new market would open for selling and buying these old ships as collectors items - similar to classic cars in real life. It gives old players something to do and spend their money on if they wish - maybe new players as well if they are fortunate.

One outstanding issue that would need extensive discussion is whether the BPOs would be taken off the market to keep them in limited supply (as a result of their end-of-life) and current BPO owners would retain their prints, for example. Taking the BPOs off the market for the old models would be similar to Tech 2 BPOs in the past except for there would not be an alternate way to procure these copies, like invention with T2 stuff. Obviously this discussion would take several avenues before finding a good balance.

I would like to think the technical side would not be over complicated to support this all you would want to do, in simple terms, would be add a new model with a new item ID and the corresponding market entries etcetera. I can see the argument about keeping the old models updated technology wise, V3 for example, or the costs of keeping all of those models in game - as in storage space for the models and textures for example. These as well are thing that would need discussion.

Very simple idea that doesn't take away anything from the game, and only requires minimal amount of work. What's there not to like?

Despite my relative newness to the universe. . .
I think this is quite a novel idea.
Would the old style ships be spinnable?
Would they be able undock?

Or you know....stop trying to create horrid isk sinks

If the idea gains enough support one of the Devs might see this and send it up the chain of command.
