Rorqual Skill Changes?

I seem to be missing something about the skill changes for Rorqual.

Last night, prior to Odyssey rolling out, an alt had about 24 days training time left on being able to sit in the pilot's seat of a Rorqual.

Now, the same alt has 40+ days of training time. I know they changed some of the skill requirements for Rorqual but from what was released on dev blogs, the change did not seem that drastic (only a matter of days).

Did I miss something here? Is there a bug of some kind with the skill changes or am I just missing something obvious? Doubling my training time seems a bit excessive.

Thanks.

Skill requirements have changed so that you actually need to have the skills to use a ship before you can train to fly it.

http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/the-great-skill-change-of-blessed-2013/ will show all the info you need

http://cdn1.eveonline.com/www/newssystem/media/64158/1/SkillCapitalIndustrialShip.jpg is the rorq

The changes are that the bad because of requirements that have been taken out (mining barge etc) and replace with what the skills that make sense for the ship (Industrial reconfig)

This is very important.

Being able to sit on whatever ship and undock with doesn't mean you have enough skills to fit it or use it properly. This is pre Odissey and it's not what we're expecting from these changes.
People must understand and train enough skills to actually use at minimum requirements whatever ship before they can sit on it and undock with.

If this si what's happening then it's a great change. Have to check it out on my accounts to see if something got borked.

The actual changes are here.

I can fly a Rorq and I'm curious to see how it looks now since I didn't have the Orca skill. I trained him to have the absolute minimum just to see what happens.

Still downloading Odyssey though.

As long as the direct skills needed to fly the ship are met, you will be fine. You may no longer have the skills needed to inject said skill anymore, but you already have it injected, so you are good to go!

They seem roughly the same for a pilot with none of the pre-req skills injected. However, you now have a redundant skill in there that is no longer a pre-requisite meaning your training time has increased as you need to learn the new pre-requisite. (unless of course you have capital industrial ships 1 already injected)

My bet is you have Mining Barge 5 which is no longer a pre-requisite for the skill.

I like it. Means my Rorqual pilot character is kind-of a specialist. I just trained Industrial Reconfig to V as well.

Thanks for the responses guys. This makes sense. I do like the idea of having the skills necessary to actually use the ship being part of the pre-reqs. Instead of getting in a ship and not being able to do anything with it. Now the 40+ day countdown begins I suppose.
