But Monsanto put a stop to that nonsense. Now the crops grow infertile seeds. No more saving back part of the crop, farmers have to buy a new load of fertile seeds from Monsanto every year. Great deal for Monsanto, but maybe not so great for the rest of us if the zombie invasion every comes.

Did some reading on that and the supposed "terminator" seeds whos crops are infertile. Monsanto admits that creating such crops is possible but they will not be doing it and so far we have no indication of them doing it.

The closest are the "hybrid seeds" where the second harvest is just weaker which is out of Monsanto's hands but the farmers just get more seeds anyway because they want the biggest possible harvest.

Hmm... More source for that was several articles in The Economist. If we can't trust them to check their facts before publishing, I don't know who we can trust. Thinking back, though, they probably didn't specifically mention Monsanto as the culprit on terminator seeds. They probably said something like "large agribusiness suppliers of seeds," and I just assumed Monsanto.

In any event, the fairly conservative, usually non-alarmist, and entirely pro-free capitalism journal The Economist saw terminator seeds as a current risk, so I tend to believe the risk is there.

Monsanto, ah yes know them well. Here's a couple things I remember:

There was this poor totally destitute African nation. People living in shanty towns, the ones you see
where all the people are living in shacks made out of corrugated aluminum siding. Somehow monsanto
got exclusive rights to the well water and started charging all the people fairly larger sums of money for
access to it. I believe they are still involved in this.

They manufactured Agent Orange that was used in Vietnam.

They developed a couple different genetically modified food crops that were immune/resistant to
Round Up Weed Killer. So you could just drown them in that crap.

Also they created various Antibiotics for dairy cattle, that was proven to increase cancer rates as it
leeched into the milk.

They are mentioned in this documentary this guy has posted in fragments on you tube:

Good documentary though.
