Mr Epeen Cool

If we had warp technolody, I'd design a ship witha micro warp drive and ram the enemy fleet to death. I would only need a thick enough front...

If u can fit one in a Coercer, u can fit one in The Missouri lol very near the same size (in length) U forget how much of those ships were engines/ engine components.

what part is more un-realistic, me wanting my ship properly protected or 2 mile long ships that are NOT properly protected? Do u honestly believe even a fantasy govt would allow billions of isk worth of ships to be so easily gunned down?

Cry balance all you want.
Battleships used to be fearsome.
They aren't any longer.
Why?
because they listened to the wrong crowd.
Battleships are now just fat a$$ed kill mails that pirates can giggle about in their dark places lol

They would be fine if they were more mobile and less stupid scan res. DPS and tank are fine. Just mobility that really makes them pointless to use over BC.

When looking at the balance of battleships versus frigates -- for example -- 5x the DPS (not even counting projection) for 25x the cost seems a little ridiculous at first blush but it makes sense from a game design perspective when you consider that it forces players to work together instead of super rich ultra high SP players being able to whelp hundreds of newbies. EVE is a game of diminishing returns and for good reason.

I disagree. If there was a 25x DPS on a battleship a couple of newbies with a few weeks skill training and an understanding of game mechanics have modules and ships at there disposal to defeat any single non cap in game. Success or failure when fighting a battleship in ships 25x less expensive should be skill based primarily.

Nerfing to the point that one of the most fearsome known type of ship is close to pointless to fly in PvP is not an intelligent response. The irony is that we still have battleships in EVE but now they're called Battlecruisers and T3's.

It was probably the most influential battleship ever constructed, as it caused the freaking Royal Navy to panic.

Most influential probably has to go to the Merrimack and Monitor. The Battle of Hampton Roads made every warship prior obsolete.

No they Didn't, main point being they couldn't stay afloat on the open ocean, they'd sink.

If you want most influential Ironclad ships that made every ship prior obsolete, look at HMS Warrior and the french Gloire.
Or another influential ship the HMS Dreadnought.

You're thinking far too small in terms of scale. It's all about muzzle velocity.

Rounds fired from projectile weapons in EVE aren't simply a case of a projectile propelled by cordite in a metal jacket. Most of them are rocket propelled and carry, at the very least, nuclear payloads.

If you want to take an example, look at rockets. The four smallest missile types have the following warheads :

EM - EMP
Explosive - Nuclear
Kinetic - Armor Piercing
Thermic - Plasma

In short, it's not about how wide your barrel is, it's got everything to do with what you're firing, how you're firing it, and at what speed. Blink

Also, comparing an EVE battleship to any vessel used in a modern day navy is a ridiculous concept. They're completely different, and share only the name of their class in common.

Also, cool off the attitudes, trolling and personal attacks in this thread. Keep it civil. Smile

The USS Missouri doesn't have nearly the rate of fire that EVE Ships have.

Consider, the 1400mm Artillery on a Tornado can fire nearly 4 volleys per minute to the USS Missouri's 2.

1400mm is 1.4m is a 4.5ft diameter barrel.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/16%22/50_caliber_Mark_7_gun

Tornado has 8 turrets, each firing 4 shells per minute, for 32 rounds per minute.
USS Missouri had 3 Turrets, with 3 guns each, firing 2 shells per minute, for 18 rounds per minute.

So, not quite double, no. However, yes, each tornado artillery barrel was over 3x the diameter of the Missouri barrels (406mm each)

The Japanese and German battleships were far more impressive, especially in their time, than the Missouri. Sorry Murica bros.
