How to tell if your cat is plotting to kill you.

But to give my own opinion on the two.. I grew up with both cats and a dog basically from when i was born which makes it..easier for me to accept both i guess.

Dogs are my favorite because they are more affectionate. If you want attention the dog is (most of the time) willing and more then happy to get pet or play. Also their loyalty appeals to me, and i have so many good memories of the dogs i grew up with which also leads me to have more feelings towards them.

Cats however applies more to me because they are more of a challenge. The two cats we have are both rescues and especially the oldest one was.. rough. It took 2 years before she trusted us enough to be willing to be in my lap. She still does not trust my husband or step daughter enough. But its a huge difference from when we first got her and she would run and hide as soon as one of us moved.

And she has also shown an attitude i have never seen in a cat.
If my better half is upset about something Holly (the name of the cat) will come and "talk" until she gets my attention and basically lead me over to whatever room he is, if an angry mother in law shows up on the door (ok happened once) she came downstairs and placed her self in front of us and hissed at my mother in law before she went over next to my step daughter and just glared at her until she left.
One time i was sick and she placed her self at the bottom of the stairs, kept howling until i went over to her and she moved up the stairs and into the bedroom like this, and when i laid down on the bed she came up and lied down next to me (was still very rare at that time) and she refused my husband to even enter the room.
And of course, if we go to bed and she does not notice, she will wake up and start to howl until she hears us calling her which leads to her coming up and "checking that we are there".
She stares a lot...and because of her black fur and green eyes..it can get pretty intense. We compare it to thisLol

And of course she can do the basic stuff like playing fetch, open doors where the door does not fit completely in the frame (she can manipulate the latch to give in i guess), talking back to us (well both of them do that) and both listen to their name and follow basic commands like up, down, sleep, cuddle.

So, bottom line is that cats and dogs both appeal to me, but dogs are just more affectionate while most cats will just..latch on to whatever person feeds them in the morning (note, most, not all). But often you have a pet because you want to feel "loved" and dogs definitely do this more and easier then a cat.

I take it you put the same seasoning on both?

Cats. they're cute, soft, cuddly, naturally inclined to use the litter box, and independent. they also eat mice and other assorted vermin. dogs are too much work.

oh, and, laser pointer + cat = hilarious

Even though cats are less harmful, i still prefer dogs and not just any kind of dog. I love me a German Shepherd or Rottweiler. A Doberman is also cool.

don't like dogs .. dogs are stupid, lazy, need to be walked, pooper scoopered

cats are smart, cats go **** in your neighbours backyard.

Dogs are among the most intelligent animals, FYI. As a general rule, social hunters are the most intelligent. Hunting requires a certain level of intellect, and complex social networks add another layer to that requirement.

Find me a cat that can understand a few hundred spoken words, read a human's facial expressions (it has been scientifically proven only dogs can do this well, they severely outperform apes), herd other animals on its own, or do anything Endal could and you just found me a dog in a cat costume. FFS Endal could dial 911 on a phone and routinely operated ATMs.

Cats can do all that stuff too.

They just choose not to.

They actually aren't very bright. Just watch how a cat hunts a mouse vs a terrier. A cat will sit there and wait for hours. A terrier will identify where it is, make noises in the opposite direction it wants it to run in order to flush it out, and then bolt for it when it runs. A group of terriers will even coordinate this.

I have a cat but he has the personality of a dog, so the best of both worlds.

I used to like cats better when I was a young laid-back Zen pseudo-hipster. "Perceive the way of nature and no force of man can harm you. Do not meet a wave head on: avoid it. You do not have to stop force: it is easier to redirect it. -Master Kan, 'Kung Fu' TV show

Now that I'm an oldster I prefer a straightforward, non-sneaky dog over a cat. Dogs smell bad, they're noisy, they chew up valuable household items, and they like eating and rolling in foul things. But they're honest and they don't play any games. "I yam what I yam, and that's all that I yam." -Popeye's motto and dog's motto

Cats are the more morale of the two. If you get in trouble, it knows how to take care of itself. If I had a dog and something happen, well we've got a local thing called Greyfriars Bobby about a dog that sat on its owners grave for he rest of its natural life, waiting form him to get back up again...

I love cats, but I think that's because most cats are like me and just like to sit back and relax. That and most cats I've dealt with are really friendly and seem to make my lap their new home within minutes of me sitting down. Dogs on the other hand are just annoying to me because they're usually the complete opposite.
