if any of you have ever tried to put up a tower in low or highsec for your own personal use, then you know what this is about. its pretty bad when you have to hire a merc group to war dec a corp just to get rid of his offline pos in high sec that he hasnt used in about a year. but because ccp cant seem to be able to figure out how to fix said problem. well i say i have the solution, and its so easy that CCP should have NO issues implementing it.

the major HP of any pos is the shields. everyone knows that. and when anyone goes to anchor and online a pos, once its online it has low shields due to recharge. well CCP why dont you just make it so that the shields on a pos, when offline, slowly drop to nothing. say 0% in 48 hours?? you choose the time frame. i dont care. tbh i could care less about any of it, but i had the idea and thought it would be worth sharing.Big smile

Their is a lot to be said about pos.. the short answer is that i agree with the OP, why should it take 10 hours to grind through 10+ million ship HP when the pos hasn't been fueled in a year. Shields and shield HP should go to 0 when the pos runs out of fuel or is offlined.

You don't need to hire Mercs, you can do it yourself. If he actually doesn't care about it, you can fit up a few 1300 DPS AFK Geddons for cheap and kill it in a few hours of napping (~70m EHP for Caldari Large vs Multi > 15 Battleship/hrs).

Also, you can just shoot into their resist hole where they already have 0 resists.

If you want something that someone else has, take it from them. If you're not willing to take it from them, I guess you don't want it enough.

Agreed - grab some friends, grab some oracles job done in way less than 10 hours and if the POS owner has truly left the game (assuming their corp isn't still active) then you won't run into any problems.

Why do you have to hire a merc corp for an offline highsec pos? Are you incapable of deccing them yourself? Use an amarr ship and you can just AFK kill the thing.

I still like the hacking mod thing tbh. Anchor a hacking mod next to the POS let it run for as long as it would take for lets say 5 or 10 BSs shooting at the thing so the owner has time to react and defend it. Then the POS is yours if it finishes the hack.

This is a thing which needs to happen. CCP Seagull said "Imagine being able to steal from your enemies" (although to be fair she wanted us to imagine lots of other far-off stuff) and this is a perfect, immediate way to begin making that a reality.

That ain't a bad idea.

Would create a new profession. POS recycler. Would literally scour eve looking for dead POS's, and taking them/salvaging them. Earn anywhere between 100 to 300 million a pos...

Yaay!!!!

i have enough alts i could do it in an hour. my point is that there are people in high sec that don't. these people are just like the people who put up the pos, but because this person was there first he cant take it. ccp has talked about how it is a problem and have said they were looking for a solution. this sounds like the perfect solution to me.

POS hacking was suggested in the first page of the hacking dev blog comments here. It's on the first page - go give it some likes. The devs responded well to it later in the thread.

I think this idea is very good. An offline and abandoned pos shouldn't even have to be destroyed. It's a bunch of metal and computers floating in space, if it's really abandoned there should be some method for taking it.

Why should you be able to take my offline POS away from me in less time than it takes to wardec my corporation?

What if there's a reason that I left that POS anchored but offline? Sure, it's been a year and a bit since I last used it, but I've been distracted by other things. The reason I haven't unanchored it is that the moment I do so, someone will anchor their own tower in that spot and I'll be left looking for a new moon at which to anchor my POS.

If you want that POS removed, wardec the corp and blow it up. If the corp retaliates, then it is possible that the POS wasn't actually abandoned after all. There's also the diplomatic approach where you could contact the owning corp and ask about joining their alliance and gaining access to their tower that way. Removing the shield isn't going to significantly alter the time it takes to remove the tower: you still have to declare war, which is 24 hours from declaration to initiation of hostilities.

I agree that there should be a non-destructive means to remove abandoned POSes, but it shouldn't be significantly easier than declaring war and blowing the POS up.

The more civilised solution is that they need fuel to stay anchored.

Even if it's just 1 block per day or something. Once the fuel runs out (ie the corp has dissolved, or left the game) then the tower dies, it's marked as abandoned like a blue wreck / can and anybody who wants to can shoot it, no wardec required.

It should still have some structure to shoot at, afterall, it's a structure that you need to demolish before you put your structure up there, but it shouldn't be as strong as an online pos.
