Rapid Deployment Support Ship

I would like to propose a new class of ship.

The purpose of this ship is to assist a pilot in moving a small number of ships and items via a jump drive of limited range. Also this ship is able to fit 1 utility high to assist in its various roles such as.

looting via a capital tractor beam
Transporting a pilots essential gear to a fleet staging point before a fleet action.
using a T1 cloak to remain in a safe spot in a hostile system during a battle to eject small ships for allies.

This ship would have a very limited defensive strength and no offensive capabilities whatsoever in order to allow it to be built at a lower cost than a carrier and be less skill intensive. The ship would have a very large capacitor pool with a fairly low recharge rate so that the utility high could be leveraged to power a remote repper but jumping the ship out would not be an option any time soon.

I think this ship would be a nice juicy and vulnerable target but at the same time offer some nice utility to people who want to risk one. Also it would give people with no combat skills an option to participate in fleet actions in a support role although to use these for logistics would be very very risky in a combat situation. with this being much smaller than a carrier its jump fuel usage should be suitably lowered.

Stats would be something like the following:

1 high slot (utility)
0 med slots
0 low slots

10k shield
5k armor
5k structure

20k m3 cargo
600k m3 ship bay
0 m3 drone bay

bonus to capital / standard tractor beam fitting / range
bonus to remote capital repper fitting.

Did you just described Orca/Rorqual?

Opinions are like assholes. Everybody got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.

If only there was a ship that could Carry ships and modules while providing logistic support and was jump capable. Some kind of Carrier ship.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

no its cheaper than both and has a jump drive which the orca doesn't have.

Also its role in comparison with a rorqual is quite different as it has a ship bay and nothing mining bonus related.

I see where you are coming from though. I think it would be a nice branch off for a rorqual pilot to perform a more useful combat role if they don't already have the skills to fight in outright combat.

Its similar to a carrier but minus the combat, a much small capacity and much higher level of weakness. Loads of people train carrier just for a taxi ride for their gear right? well doesn't that suggest that there is something missing?

Nope not at all.

If you train for a suitcase carrier your still training all the same skills your suggestion would require.

For what you are suggesting... just get a standard carrier hull, go full cap fit, load it up and jump around.

After the patch you wont even have to train BS V for it anymore.

These will literally never be used for anything other than jumping from the undock of one station into docking range of another. Hardly a juicy target.

Nice job on giving it twice the cargohold of a standard carrier by the way! I'm surprised you didn't do what the last guy to suggest exactly this did and give it twice the ship bay too. Roll

?

Did you read the OP?

The orca isn't jump capable, and the Rorqual "Due to its specialization towards industrial operations, its ship maintenance bay is able to accommodate only industrial ships, mining barges and their tech 2 variants"

Good luck trying to put a BC / BS in that Big smile

There has been many calls for ship transporters, both jump drive capable and empire dwelling, it would be nice to be able to move ships around without having to mess about with courier contracts.

I guess when the orca gets it's skill requirements cut a lot, there will be a lot more of them used just to move smaller ships around.

A non-offensive ship carrying ship would be a nice addition to the game, but why does it need bonus to tractor beam, remote capital repair fittings if it's just a ship carrier?

Make it well defended but nothing else, akin to the freighters, with the possible exception of a utility slot for a cloak only.

But there's been many arguments for and against in the past.
