Thread subscriptions - utterly useless?

Hi there,

I was just wondering if there is actually any use for the silly little subscribe button on a thread. If I subscribe to a thread, there's no list of "subscribed threads" I can consult that I know of (if there is it must be very inaccessible), and as for subscribed threads giving you notifications when there are posts there... total bull, nothing happens whatsoever.

Is there any point to it? Can CCP fix it so there is a point to it?

I have subscribed to your thread. I look forward to further updates.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

Subscribing used to mean that you'd get notifications of further posts to that thread. The notification would appear in the little flag menu, along with "so and so liked your forum post on such and such".

At about the time of FanFest 2013 the notifications stopped working. It would not surprise me to find that some magical counter has hit 32767 because the original BBS software that EVE forums are based on was never designed to handle tens of thousands of users.

Make sure you file a bug report, pointing out that subscriptions don't produce any notifications. You might also want to add a feature request (e.g.: in the Features & Ideas discussion forum) for a list of subscribed threads.

The notifications seemed to have stopped working a while back. It's unfortunate. I suggest using the thread favouriting feature as a substitute.

I guess using favourites would be easier; the worse is when you've tried to subscribe to, say, a Character Bazaar thread, and you have to trawl through a gazillion pages to find it (because the search function looking for a specific character doesn't work either... of course).

Give a man a match and you warm him for a day.

The forum hamsters are on strike, CCP tried mice as a replacement and that didn't work.

It costs one PLEX to activate forum notifications now, didn't you know this?

I filed a petition around the time of Fanfest and it seemed to be news to them. It was passed onto the web team.

No word since then.

I did as well around then and CCP Eterne (!) himself replied and told me it was a known issue and being worked on, fix Soon™,

I noticed this problem myself, and it's nice to have confirmation that's it's not just me.

But I can't muster much enthusiasm for complaining about the fact that CCP is focusing on making the game better rather than the forums.

YMMV
