So, by now, all of eve is the site of innumerable corporations and alliances that have failed, lost sites, and just been destroyed.

Wouldn't it be neat if they left behind some ruins to probe out?

Say, show up to a defunct pos, find some stuff in storage like bp's, mods, resources, salvage, scrap, and such.
Also, once in a while, you find a ship. Once in a great while (like a few times a month, server wide) you find a cap ship. ships found would be basically just navigable, maybe a mod or two equipped, but nothing functional and plenty of damage and moving slowly. Basically, you find one of these, you hop in, and you go straight to station. The ship would not have piloting requirements until you get to station but it basically can't do anything until it's been docked.

This way, anyone who finds a ship they cannot pilot normally can still potentially make money off of it, but not gain mass

Impossible idea lore wise. Only 4 empires/factions got to space, thats why you cannot find any spaceships (or ruins in space) of old empires - they are just non-existent. Even if there are any (for some reason) those are ancient relics and cannot be controlled by capsuleer in capsule, they will not have warp-drive to get you out (else there should be more than 4 factions in game).

Opinions are like assholes. Everybody got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks.

Ah, the clueless noobs... Google is your friend.Lol

There are 5 current empires, the 5th is Jove. 4 ancient ones, of which only Sleepers have been expanded on. The rest still only have cosmos missions and sites tied into them from back in the days.

Shame, I wish CCP would do more with such rich lore, instead of developing into such award winning contents such as PI, WiS, Dust...Roll

Old Empire 1: Sleepers. Wormholes have actually addressed this, though.

Old Empire 2: Takmahl.

Old Empire 3: Talocan. There are some Talocan ships and sometimes ruins in WHs, but they don't have their own place.

Old Empire 4: Yan-Jung.

Bonus Empire: Old Jove Empires. They're known to have had several "golden ages" and moved around the galaxy a lot. They didn't always live in that impenetrable "Jove Space".

My interpretation of the OP was more like being able to scan down and hack defunct player installations/POSes. There would be literally hundreds or thousands of them in empire space alone I'm sure.

Yes,I like this. There should be a way for enterprising players to remove / make money from the thousands of old and unused POS towers scattered around space.

It's been in discussion for a long time, and apparently even CCP sees other ways to deal with ruins in space other than blowing it up. (Citations missing, but that statement was made occasionally) If that helps.
