I have seen that EvE will run on the pro version of the Surface. Will it run on the standard version?

Looked up...saw this F***ING clown dropping like a rock.  Woke up in Vylade wondering what just happened!!!

It won't run on the RT version because that one doesn't run a PC version of windows. The Surface Pro should run EVE just fine with graphics turned down to lowish settings.

Surface Pro runs EVE at "high" settings without anti-aliasing at about 30 fps in space but gets absolutely unplayable in dust-clouds. -And forget about "touch", EVE's UI is no fun with a touch device. (well at least for me)

ship spinning works with touch! but when you say try to activate a mod sometimes it will just mouse over, sometimes it will activate, and every now and then it will activate and deactivate.

Trying to be funny here or are you one of those Apple tards?
The Surface is an amazing thing to work with, aside from a few small things, which they will fix in 8.1.

LOL no it's not. MS has failed with their Surface product, both RT and Pro. It's going nowhere fast, and the reason has nothing to do with apple and everything to do with Microsoft's inability to design products that people want for a price people are willing to pay. Enjoy your boat anchor Lol

You don't have to own something and try it yourself to have a valid opinion of course :P

They just became available in NZ, but think I will hold out for their next model. I did play with one of Sony's hybrid tablets at the start of the year and it was freaking awesome. I actually prefer Win8 to the other popular tablet operating systems although I currently only use android personally and iOS when someone has a problem at work (I haven't tried Mozilla's OS nor Tizen obviously). But I don't get all the MS hate, the only gripe I had when using the tablet was the icons being a little small in desktop mode - otherwise was quite smooth (which I find on their phones too). Works well on my desktop and I have no touch screen :| Can't wait to see how photoshop runs on one! Each to their own though, whatever you are comfortable with - all these options are great for consumers.

I'd be surprised if they couldn't play eve, even with the low end intel graphics, I have apus with similar power and it runs great.

You quite obviously haven't worked with the Surface for very long.
Some of my Mickysoft hating mates are having serious problems, finding reasons to hate the thing.

It's a new approach for Mickysoft and every new approach comes with it's issues, don't be surprised when they slowly but surely take over the market in the long run though, cause no other company in the world has this much brilliance on its payroll ( not even Google ).

You mean versus the iPad/Andriod which has 1000000000000 completely useless apps?

Talk about blowing it, Apple and Google were years ahead of Microsoft but they failed to produce decent development tools and therefore were not adopted at all by business software companies.

Now companies are buying Surface because guess what? They can run the apps that run their business.

iPad is a toy.

Intel has as much or more brilliance on their payroll. But Intel is also not a direct competitor to MSFT.

I prefer windows 7 over windows 8, but prefer mac OS over all. I don't tout my OS is superior. I actually use all the different OSes in my home.

I think what matters is getting on Eve on every possible device, hell even the Wii U version of eve would be bad ass.

I recently purchased a "multimedia" "performance" laptop. However it is NOT a gaming laptop, even though it has a GPU capable of running EVE well (Nvidia GT 640M with 2 GB of GDDR5). It has very little in the way of sustained cooling capacity!

I wouldn't recommend playing games on devices not intended for sustained gaming. My past experience is that gaming requires a lot of cooling, which the smaller & lighter devices just can't cope with.

Typical points of failure:
* CPU and / or GPU throttling (i.e. they slow down, sometimes so much that they become useless).
* Cooking the GPU and / or video memory (killed two video cards on my last laptop, and one on the laptop before that one).
* Solder ball failure on chip packages (extreme heat consequence, very rare but known to happen).

I've actually preordered the surface pro - can't wait to have a tablet that can run actual software - not just some shoddy 'apps' designed for ARM processors.

Having that said, the current surface RT and surface pro shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath - the surface is somewhat like an Ipad, but with less apps and worse display, whereas the Pro has a better display and will allow you to run any windows compatible software as long as the system can handle it - and it should handly way more than current windows 8 tablets.

Don't get me wrong - I like my Ipad, but it's just that - a gimmick lying around on the cocktal table I pick up to see what's on in TV or browse some news sites whilst hanging in the couch or balcony. I still have to find an app I consider useful.

Anyway - would I expect the Surface Pro to run Eve properly? No - if anything, it will overheat and run out of power in no time - plus I've played eve on an age old Asus convertible using a stylus about 5 years ago when the classic client was still around and it was quite terrible.

Checking some market orders when traveling maybe - but playing eve? No.
