Is there a drop dead point for these? Can I wait until after Odyssey to use them?

You can wait forever. There has never been a deadline to use these SP.

More info from when unallocated skill points first came out: the removal of learning skills.

A: Nope! They will be added to your skill point queue and the will not expire. Use them now or savor them like a tasty treat for later.

I've still got my skill points from the learning skill refund. Once you have ~25M skill points it's generally more valuable to sit on them for the day you are a couple hours from flying something you just really need to fly.

I can understand your reasoning, but you just proved that it will not work.
If you are still sitting on the learning SP refund, it becomes less likely that you ever going to use them. Why waste those SP?

Use them soon, that way you can use these free SP for a longer period in your toon's life.
The 50.000SP we got last week is about a day's worth of skilling. If you use them now you'll be ahead of yourself for one day the rest of your life! Think about it ;)

Ahh, but one day CCP may introduce new skills and those of us who sat on our unallocated SP will have the option to instantly be trained in those skills. Imagine being highly skilled in something like planetary interaction or some skill that permits a new type of activity the day it comes out.

Other reasons I sit on mine are if a day comes when I want to join a fleet / corp that needs me to be better trained in some area or if I need to train something that is not efficient with my current attribute mapping.

consider the following scenario that has happened before to people; you're awoxing a high sec corp and you've managed to tackle a freighter of theirs, they say they can't pay your ransom demands so you demand they eject from the ship. that's no good if you can't fly the ship. now i personally can fly a charon but will be able to inject the skillbooks for all the other freighters, but until i buy one i'm unlikely to train the skill. if they eject from say, an obelisk in front of me, you can damn well expect me to quickly skill gallente freighters to 1 using some of that free sp so i can walk way with a 1.5bn isk ship worth of loot if i don't have any gallente freighter pilot pals on line.

there are situations where training an injected skill to 1 right that very moment, will be massively useful.

I had 120 mil or so when the refund came out, and used them right away.

I was remapped intel / memory, and I used them on perc / willpower skills etc, to get the most out of my respec.

Exactly, I see their value as being unbiased towards any attributes, so you can train up a leadership skill while you are specced for training engineering/drones/whatever, for example

flies to nearest station with required skill book and wonders why the freighter is not there when he gets back :) .

I do get the principle though.

keep the skills for later in case you need them i still got about 125K SP left over... so if ever you need to catch up for a patch like the one coming you'll get more then 4 times what you could of gotten
