question of running missions

Is it faster and simpler for a person new to running missions to go with the caldari mission ships starting out ? I was training drones but I want to have a ship that uses missiles or projectiles. However with projectiles it seems like you are always out of optimal range. so are missiles more easy mode ?

apples and oranges. missiles have less problems with range but more problems with fast, small targets. also, missiles have flight time which means that if the target is far away, you have to count shots or waste time and ammo.

I should buy an Ishtar.

Almost every ship uses drones, ie they don't really go away even if you stop flying droneboats - you haven't wasted your training thus far.

All droneboats also have some other weapon system, and its usually necessary to use it to keep aggro off the drones and to make your droneboats do more damage. Prophecy, gila and rattlesnake are drone and missile combo boats you could fly if you later decide you want to make more use of drones again.

Autos tend to fight in fall off and thats not necessarily a problem, as eve weapon systems are usually shorter range, higher damage, or longer range, lower damage, and autos in fall off are between the two.

Not a bad idea to try all 4 races frigates to get a feel for each weapon type to see which ones you like.

At some point I would like to do incursions as well is it true that most fleets dont accept missle boats as much ?

Yeah unfortunately the strong competition for Incursion sites has made the delayed damage from missiles an unacceptable weapons system for most fleet doctrines.

Things that keep me up at night;  Why do we use a voice communication device to send telegraphs? Moore's Law should state, Once you have paid off the last PC upgrade you will need another.

i always wondered if a HAMgu might succeed. iirc it can get missile speeds up to 8km/sec or so, so the delay might not be that large. on the flip side its HAM dps and tank can easily compete with most battleships.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I dont know how is gonna be after Odyssey nerf but at the moment:

T2 800mm ROCKZ...

You dont need to count salvos, you dont need to get pissed of by low ROF.... you just go and kil EVERYTHING what moves or not. If it was moving, it stops and blows up very quickly.

Id go Minmatar. Minmatar will become the best lvl 4 Race post 6/June. The Maelstrom(Projectile) is a beast and the Typhoon(Missiles) will become a beast.

Also, Id never do lvl4s solo without T2 Drones, droneboat or not. Meta fitted primary weaponsysystem is fine but T1 drones, not so much.

Try to not spread your skill training across multiple races saves you a lot of time. I do missions from 2009 and did a lot of errors. At the end i face huge clone cost so trying to not get podded. Minmatar? Yeah Large artillery makes a lot of DPS but are slow can't imagine running L4's solo with large projectiles. Anyway go for T2 turrets as soon as possible. If Minmatar so it will be T2 800mm i think. For missions i prefer rails over all other stuff Big smile

Certificates you may find useful:

Core Elite - All
Battleship Advanced (your gun) Improved
Turret Control Elite
Defense - Improved All, Hull tanking Elite
High-Velocity Helmsman Improved

Drones T2 lights and mediums

Get EFT (Eve Fitting Tool) and EVE Mon for ship fitting and skill training - implants in slots 1 to 5

This alone will set you busy for 1 year or more after that we can kill World Collide L4 in less that 15 minutes together

Fly safe Big smile

The Maelstrom is one of the best T1 mission runners. And T1 projectiles is enough to fly through missions.

I didnt even have full T2 tank when I started lvl4s in a Mael. And Im telling u, the Maelstrom is a beast

Maelstrom with 1200mm Artillery is what you want for missions and is a good starting point for Incursions as well.
