I'm a little unsure about how things work in this respect. I'm not talking about shooting someone in high sec and then having your buttocks blown to kingdom come that's fairly obvious. But say smuggling illicit contraband goods what happens, I've not seen anything to explain the consequences.

Also on a quick side note does anyone ever read your characters biog? I just filled it in with some free form writing that was in my head.

The navy npc's at gates and station will randomly scan ships' cargo. If they find contraband the pilot gets fined.

Check out other peoples' bios. They are full of all sorts of stuff. Some weird, some helpful, some are good warnings as to wether or not they will shoot at you

Each item has an info page that lists if the item is illegal in the areas of each empire. Amarr may admit slaves, for example, but they are illegal everywhere else.

There are Customs NPC's (flying anything from frigates to battleships) at certain gates (not all of them). You can set up your overview to show Customs and not show Navy or Police, just Customs, to see them clearly.

If Customs is present at a gate you may get scanned, and if they scan you they will find the illegal cargo. At that point they attack, and you also get fined for an amount of ISK and the cargo will be confiscated (removed) from your ship. You can also lose standings with the empire for contraband.

They are not Concord, you don't instantly die; you have a chance of surviving, depending on your ship, but it's still an attack that you have to survive.

So, basically, if you want to smuggle illegal stuff, first find routes that do not have Customs flying around at the gates. And second, fly fast ship that can jump and dock fast, to reduce the chance of being scanned.

Thanks for the info that really clears things up for me. A distinct customs enforcing group of ships the complexity of this game continues to amaze me.

note the customs checks are chance based iirc, and if you want to smuggle there are special pirate implants (snake's) that can help you move contraband goods.

but in most scenarios it's better to just leave them wherever you found them.

I also believe that you can smuggle things by creating courier contract, perhaps double-wrapped courier contracts, maybe with some sort of secure container, I'm not sure, but this at least used to be the case. Also, if you do get caught carrying something illegal and get the pop up, if you don't click yes and hand over the goods, then your ship gets kershploded.

Go with the Code.

Just read your bio as your question intrigued me.

Firstly, I'm sure it's not myself who is referred to in your story.

Secondly, it kinda gave me the creeps a little bit. Shocked It made me feel a little bit 'weird' (sorry, can't think of a better word).

Lastly, where's it from? Is it true, or based on something true... or is it simply something in your head? What?

I'd liek to add that you should NOT jettison illegal wares when the custom officers stop you. They see this as an act of agression, even if you have the intent of dropping the illegal wares, and will open fire when you do. Only be clicking 'yes' on the window that opens can you hand the goods over safely.
