so i just started running a navy scorp in L4s and i have a spare turret high slot. with so many mids i can easily fit a web, is it possible for a large blaster to track small webbed npc frigs?

a navy scorp only has drone bay space for 3 sentries, and that would leave no room for lights. i know for a fact sentries dont track frigs under 10km even when webbed, Ive tried it. are u saying 2 sentries and 5 lights? Are you thinking i said rattlesnake?

2 sentries and 5 lights is a lot better idea than a large blaster cannon -_-

you're firing missiles from range anyway, why not add damage to that instead of waiting for stuff to come that close?

Not a problem in a vindicator, but a single unbonused turret with unbonused webs?

I'd say the effect is negligible.

Single web, no.

Double web, need to wait a while for it to slow down, then partial hits once in a while, assuming max skills. Low skills, no.

All in all, not worth doing. Use light/med drones like everyone else.

First of all lots of NPCs spawn close

while the two sentries are adding 90ish dps to my 700 long range dps (13% increase), nothing would be killing the scrambling, webbing etc. frigs near me

the drone link is only useful between 80km and 60km, a distance which frigs can traverse quite quickly

OTOH

I could add 57 dps from 1 large autocannon to the 99 dps of my 5 hobgob 2s for a 57% increase in short range damage

most frigs close to under 10km, so the blaster dps stays useful for much longer

I could still use shorter range sentries if i wanted to (i won't it's dumb)

To everyone else, the tracking is what i was wondering about, thank you

edit: how about a medium blaster?

how about a small autocannon? ;>

In all seriousness, I think light drones are your best bet against close orbiting frigates. A web is probably not worth the midslot unless you're REALLY struggling against those frigs. Do you have decent drone skills?

You won't break elite frig tank with an unbonused small ac.

No, but it'll track them just fine and add a tiny bit of dps on top of your light drones' dps.

this toon has pretty crap drone skills, i can kill em eventually tho. I'm just looking for a good way to use my last turret slot and i like the idea of shooting a gun at frigates :)

In my opinion every BC/battleship pilot should prioritize unlocking Tech2 hobgoblins and get drone interfacing to at least 3. It's a significant increase in power for less than 2 weeks of training, and it really helps you out a lot when dealing with frigates. That extra high slot is not going to help you out much in comparison.

A small gun is pretty much the best thing you can put in that highslot to deal with npc frigs. If you're careful you can use a large smartbomb but that often ends in your ship being Concordokkened.

T2 lights are pretty much the only reasonable option, also, packing 2 Sentry drones can allow you to pop frigs on the approach so it will help with killing npc frigs.

You don't have that much top weapons against elite frigs or interceptors often with sign radius under 35

-75mm railguns ->there's nothing those can't track

-180mm autocanons -> frigates assassins

-smartbombs (lol but works)

-light drones

Since you PVE, get good skills for those light drones (support skills+specs), pick hobgobs and watch them massacre those frigates.

I did say pack 2 sentries and a set of 5 hobs... should be no frig that can survive 5 hobs for long.

Light drones are they way to go, the standard mission runner's anti-frig weapon. As for the remaining utility high slot, I would probably throw a tractor beam on there just to speed up the collection of mission critical cans or loot.

thanks all for the replies, one last thing

i still have a mid slot i dont need for tank, would an omni tracking unit (drone tracking unit) increase hobgob dps enough to justify it over a 4th hardener?
