Missiles nerfed?

There is an angel outpost near my station I occasionally like to fly out towards and test my damage in game. It's all Arch cruisers and 4 arch frigates, so it's also a good tank test (Drake). Previously, 30 or less volleys from my Arbalest launchers could take out an arch cruiser. That's bad sure, but I'm still training up and as previously mentioned, I like to see the improvements over-time with these tests.

Today, however, reloading and shooting all 36 volleys the Arbelests can fit, barely got into even an Arch Gistum Breaker's armor. My missile range (right now, at least) is 47km and it was 26km away and flying mostly towards me. I lost 3 of my 5 drones when finishing off the last frigate. Were missiles nerfed, or did loosing my drones impact my damage -that- severely? (Drone Interfacing 3.) Perhaps, the 49% chance of a big shield boost on the cruiser kept happening and it was just dumb luck?

most likely you got unlucky with the shield boosting. Missiles have the most consistent damage of all weapon systems.

That's what I was afraid of. Training more missile and shield skills after all this electronic stuff I am getting out of the way. (Part of my prereqs for Tengu. Improving skills and skilling up for the modules I want on it, as well as the ship of course.)

Yes, they did get nerfed. 10% lower dmg, plus larger exp radius for less applied dmg. Roughly 30% less applied dps on small moving targets.

After reading many of the changes, the most common complaints seem to be that HAMs are superior now and Heavy MIssile Tengu's suck. True? I should abandon my Tengu path and go on a path to Nighthawk or Navy Raven?

True. Ham with jav and 3x range mods now has slightly higher range, slightly more dps, and slightly better tracking than hml with furies and 3x rigors. With hams, you have the option to swap for higher dmg ammo, for more dps. With hml, you have the option to swap for lower dmg ammo, for longer range. 74km range (jav/fury fit mentioned) is already enough, so the higher dmg potential is the better choice.

Not looking forward to each missile costing 300+. I'll start looking at ships that can use HMLs.

Or maybe good precision skills with cruise missiles and precision missiles in my bay for cases of elite frigates that just won't die. I'll wait to see how the supposed T3 rebalancing and battleship rebalancing works out.

I've been pondering missile operation and results. If the ship was moving toward you. Perhaps its incoming velocity is what affected your missile damage. I notice I do more damage against certain ship types that are slow moving. Given the proper variables apply.
