Hey folks,

Can someone point me to a source where I can find an insight to the current hardware & software behind TQ? The most recent information I could find dates back to '09, I think something must've changed in the meantime?

Perhaps this is a nice topic for a feature devblog from one of the servertechs?

You know those wicked awesome server farms you see in all the movies?

Picture the exact opposite, and add an icelandic background.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Thankfully they're non-union, otherwise we'd have a 15min server restart every 3-4 hours.

You'd be surprised. I know where I work the refresh goal is 5 years, but I regularly run into system pushing the 8 and 9 year range. "If it isn't broke..."

I remember seeing a couple posts concerning what they were running, but what stuck out was IBM blades, HS20s (maybe around 60 of them?), that iirc only max at 8GB each and a handful of x3850s for database servers.

It is amazing how well they've been able to build on everything over the past 10 years without it become a tangled mess (as shown in the picture) as can so easily happen.

CCP should just brew their own cheap beer, sell it for insane prices at fanfest (you know we'll buy Quafe brand beer), and buy all new hardware. Smile

Nope. Iceland gets sunshine in the summer.

That's a lot of ram for a computer running Win95

It's a blade cluster running Windows Server 2008 R2 installed in the Server Core configuration. Their database server is MSSQL Server 2008, database storage is RamSan.

No idea how many blades CCP uses or how they're networked. I can only assume (and hope) it's 10GbE with redundancy. Each in-game solar system is a separate "server", but most of their nodes are hosting several dozen systems at once. Jita and certain other systems are always on dedicated nodes while some low-activity system like Rimbah runs alongside several dozen other low-traffic systems on the same node.

It runs TQ - just needs the RAM!

...and has volcanos.

Right enough I suppose they give off some heat, which by all accounts the UK could do with right now (apparently snowed the other day), makes me feel slightly better about being in Oman which is at least hot.
