I wouldn't want to work as a developer period. No matter how much effort you put in, no matter how hard you try, you will never please the whiny, self centered, egotistical genital wart who can't see past their own ass that is the player base.

You too have worked in an upscale restaurant as well? P

Small world.

The most upscale I've ever done was a pizza joint. I'm just referring to what we see on every mmo's forum. Some developers even understand it. There was a quote by Mark Jacobs way way back in the daoc days and for the life of me I can't find it anymore. But he said "No matter what you do as a developer, you will always be on the bottom of the **** pile. It is physically impossible to appeal to 100% of the player base." And he's right too. If the devs ever wanted to have fun and actually implement every little nerf that people cry for with their false sense of fairness, we would eventually end up with pong. And I'm sure somebody would probably try to cry nerf even at that point.

You all made me remember this

"The problem was you had to keep choosing between one evil or another, and no matter what you chose, they sliced a little bit more off you, until there was nothing left. At the age of 25 most people were finished. A whole god-damned nation of ***holes driving automobiles, eating, having babies, doing everything in the worst way possible, like voting for the presidential candidates who reminded them most of themselves. I had no interests. I had no interest in anything. I had no idea how I was going to escape. At least the others had some taste for life. They seemed to understand something that I didn't understand. Maybe I was lacking. It was possible. I often felt inferior. I just wanted to get away from them. But there was no place to go."

—Bukowski, Ham on Rye, 1982

Pleasing everybody pfft! I am with you all.

Trying to please people is the first step to the death of the soul, specially when everyone seems to have "answers" on how to do things, the "right way".

Even with the little stupid nerfs and more user friendly "of sorts" Eve has become in the past 8 years, it still retains that little piece of soul that makes it unique.

If Eve tried to please everybody it would have been thrown in the shelf of WOW Clones in my mind.

Auto-pilot paddles.

You'd basically end up watching the game in demo mode.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Also a high pain tolerance is required.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

One of my old friends worked at Bullfrog

He had a degree.
He knew several programming languages before he got a job there.

A lot has changed in 15 odd years, but I expect the Degree stipulation still holds true.
Project Management/Development skills wouldn't go amiss either.
Communication Skills will probably be prioritised as well.

Best way to find out what companies like CCP want is to check if they have a 'current vacancies' section on their website
If they do, you should be able to view or download a candidate requirements scrip

You may 'need' your name on a credits list too What?

Well, in all honesty Eve's technical brillance is on par with any game-developer in the world. So my graphical, programming, and technical mastery of servers, hardware would be a must for the technical side of things.

For the game-designer side of things probably just either dedication, passion, and someone easy to get along with I'm assuming.

Once you have these things you will know what needs to be done.

I need to get outta NYC. My wife can have the rent controlled apartment here on the Upper East Side, the Chilean Water Rights investments, and our '11 turbo AMG Mercedes. I want to escape to sunny Reykjavik and start over as a janitor at CCP.
