Echelon Entertainment auction completed

Passari – Echelon Entertainment has completed its auction of assets and intellectual property in an effort to save parent-corporation Kaalakiota Corporation from future loan defaults. In total, the corporation has sold off approximately 35% of its physical assets and 55% of its intellectual property catalog.

The largest buyer has been Echelon-rival Nugoeihuvi Corporation, which purchased several of Echelon's more prominent holoreel rights and current affairs series, as well as the Caldari Financial News channel and This is the State program. Nugoeihuvi released a statement saying it plans on “retooling many of the current properties to fit the NOH brand” while assuring consumers “disruption to your favorite programs shall be minimal as we bring our expertise to the situation.”

Other items were snapped up by a variety of buyers, including the other five megacorporations, Amarr Certified News, Egonics Inc, Impetus, the Scope, and several private buyers, including one Amarr Holder who purchased all rights to a holoreel series on animal husbandry.

Echelon stock sharply dropped in response to the sales, as industry analysts claim the loss of rights will cost Echelon billions of ISK in revenue. Echelon itself has released a statement saying it has “divested itself of properties which were waning in value” while the corporation plans on “refocusing on a body of work which has been trimmed of needless fat.”

I considered bidding on it, but figured it was probably going to be worth more than I could afford.

This is the part of the story to take note of.

I expect many .... subtle changes to programming to begin in earnest.

With this recent purchase. Fred Fred Frederation and other Scope News Network programs will no longer be blocked in Patriot Bloc owned stations and worlds!

I haven't watched much of Echelon's lineups. I have seen A Game of Drones though. And that one show on the Raata Empire.
I'm waiting for one of the networks to maybe go further into pre-space flight and make historical drama on maybe Matar or even the Gallente.

Why did I laugh a bit at this?

But anyway, maybe I can get some of their better shows at a reasonable price now...

Agreed, though I think that the exiled Ammarian heir is the true successor to the throne. her loyal Minmatar horde certainly believe so.

A pity the more technically literate Gallente merely utilize sophisticated softare to pirate the material Evil

Fred Fred Frederation? A Game of Drones? Animal Husbandry 101's? My dear, the time you all must have to be able to see all those shows. I think I need to get back into mining again also.

Given who heads Echelon's parent company, I am surprised Gallente corporations were allowed to bid.

I wonder what this means as far as competition goes in that market segment. NoH and Echelon were rivals in the entertainment space, and now one of them has partially been bought for the other. Lack of competition removes important market forces.

I encourage whoever bought rights to "Ice Field Truckers" to continue the series, it's my clan's favorite.

Thanks.

For Chief Executive Heth who speaks of his belief in the primacy of Caldari interests, it is rather interesting to watch as he divests subsidiary corporate assets and intellectual property to foreign enterprises due to the ditch he has buried Kaalakiota in. Yet another case where the rhetoric does not match the reality. Another display of Executive incompetence. For all Heth-haan's talk of being a worker's advocate he seems rather unable to actually justify his position as CEO of Kaalakiota, and in fact has driven it, by all objective accounts into a position worse than before the recession and his takeover of the company -- all the more galling because it is only Kaalakiota which now risks fiscal insolvency when compared to other CEP members, as such the only conclusion to be drawn is that the fault lies solely upon the shoulders of CEO Heth for the weakening of the company's position.

Of course, this is already evident to anyone not part of CEO Heth's inner circle of corrupt cronies in the Kaalakiota. Ironic since the man promised a return to meritocratic values and who instead now appears to appoint people to positions of authority inside the company not on their actual ability, but on personal loyalty to himself and the CPD. With the end result that there is now only debt, lack of liquid capital, a depreciation of the KK scrip and the current firesale of subsidiary assets to keep the company alive in the face of the vicious cancer eating away at its strength named, "Provist".

Heth signed a promissory note to the citizens and workers of Kaalakiota, yet today it is clear both his financial and moral coffers have come up empty for the hero of the common man he has sought to portray himself as has been revealed as nothing more than a corrupt charlatan, a liar, a fraud, and an incompetent corporate leader out of his depth. And it is those very workers of Kaalakiota who he lied to, whose trust he has betrayed, who will now have to pay the price for his failures as a leader.

An excellent opportunity for Egonics Inc., Impetus and The Scope to prove the critics wrong, then.

Will these companies acknowledge the existing customer base for their newly acquired entertainment portfolio? Or will audiences experience a slow and subtle change in programming, so that State prime time viewing reflects that of the Federation, along with the obligitory Quafe commercials every 10 minutes?

I have no idea why NOH bought This Is The State -- it's been a laughingstock since Heth took the helm of Kaalakiota and turned it into a propaganda tool for his administration. Nugoeihuvi's Games of State was the far superior program anyway, and at least maintained a respectable amount of balance. Perhaps they will just give Savalenta another broadcast outlet.

And whoever wrote that article seems to have miscounted the number of megacorporations...unless I'm mistaken, eight minus Kaalakiota minus Nugoeihuvi is six, not five. Another excellent reporting job from those fine journalists at the Scope...
