o/ Everyone

My name is Braul Bellator. A nod to brawling in an MMA promotion called Bellator in the U.S. I am from Saint Petersburg, Florida and have always had an interest in EVE online, but just recently began my career as a pilot.

Currently, I am working on mining and manufacturing specialization, but eventually look to branch out into fleet, and someday corporation management.

I am truly excited, and in awe at this new experience, and have thus far been welcomed by the most mature, and helpful community in my 13 years of playing MMOs dating back to the launch of EverQuest.

I am taking advantage of the 21 day trial, and tomorrow will be purchasing PLEX!

I am looking forward to many long years of service to this community and our universe. You can find me skulking about in Rookie help answering as many questions as I can.

Well, so far I've just seen chat in Rookie Help... which is vastly superior to that of (Insert other popular MMO). Don't tell me you're all jaded already!

Statement makes me think we are talking to a class C troll.

Also, rookie help is no representation of EVE in general. Onpy new players and ISD are active there with a very occasional old guy who made a new account.

Honestly, I am not trolling. I am being as genuine as I can be, albeit apparently very naive, but still genuine.

Thanks for the warning about GD's content, I'll take it in stride when I get there.

It depends. Let us know when you run into your first problem(s) in EVE. How your frame your problem(s)/experience(s) will be very important and will either make or break your stay here. Twisted

Other than that... welcome to EVE.

It can be pretty bad here on the forums and in EVE in general. You just have to learn to deal with the people who are trying to make your life miserable.
But yes in general the EVE population (from my experience is more polite and mature then (random popular online game) if you just take the time to get to know them and you stay polite even if they are trying to bait you.

I'm also a new pilot, with a similar background to the op. So far, my experience matches his.

Guess we have some wake up calls coming down the line. Bring it on :D

I second this but yeah we're nice and up front about being jerks but seriously eve if full of people you will smile to your face then stab you in the back why when I meet new people I tell them I'm an a$$ hole but I'm nice enough to tell them that ahead of time.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

Purchasing plex, eh? Is that to convert to isk to somehow further your goals?

If so..

You may find (like so many thousands before you) that having a fat wallet with little knowledge of the game is more hindrance than helpful. Don't fall into the trap of thinking this game is like other games, it's not!

You will almost inevitably end up scammed (an 'honest business proposition' would be a good approach to you, I think) without understanding how/why it happened.

Or, you will get into a ship that is beyond your capabilities, thinking eve is like other games, and you just need to rank up to the next ship. You will explode, and probably not know how/why it happened.

edit: these two circumstances are not exclusive to buying a plex, they will happen to you because you don't know game mechanics

The best advice I can possibly give you (and this will affect your entire future perspective in eve) is to find a good pvp corp to learn the ropes from.

Criteria to look for would be....

-PvP-focused (ignore corps with the statements "missioning, pve, mining, and ESPECIALLY new-player friendly"
-Tech 1 ship/module replacement
-Activity in your time zone
-A minimum SP requirement.

The last part might not make sense, because you are new, and probably won't meet their SP requirement, but the "right" kind of corp will find out how intelligent, and willing to learn you are, before rejecting you out of hand. If they don't want a dedicated, loyal newbie who is willing to learn, you don't want them anyway.

So

Will you spend your time in eve with the mentality of the victim?

or

Will you spend your time in eve triumphing, and failing with equal grace?

Obviously you didnt read closely. He said he is on a TRIAL and was purchasing A plex. Ergo, he is subscribing.

...and this here is a prime example of the ass hats you get around here. Nitpicking an entire helpful post for one inconsequential thing.

The advice becomes irrelevant because a small part of it doesn't apply this once? I worded it so that it doesn't matter whether he is purchasing plex or not, but obviously you didn't read closely.
