Worthless research on mining barge BPOs?

So I totally understand wanting to revamp the ore costs on the mining barges. Fixing the market and all that.

What I have a problem with is that the "extra materials" are unaffected by ME level. Am I incorrect on this? Otherwise, it seems to me that the overwhelming majority of the cost of building a retriever is in "extra materials" which are unnaffected by research. As such, why the hell did I spend so much time researching BPs when researching them is now useless?

I know you cant build one for profit right now, thats not my problem. I am willing to wait the market out but when that happens, will I still be left with a BPO which essentially cant be improved with research?

Why not just integrate the extra materials into the normal bill of materials? Is there a particularly prudent reason for not doing so?

Comon CCP, I understand fixing the game but I dont like you ruining the utility of something without cause.

If they integrated it into the build cost, then you could build them cheap before the change (as everyone did) and then reprocess them after the change and create a whole bunch of minerals out of thin air.

They probably will do it at some point though.

they will do it, eventually. but if they are waiting on the dude sitting on 10k, 20k hulls to sell his stock... they can keep waiting till 2020...

honestly they should just tag the hulls instead of the bpo, so if you attempt to reprocess one of those hulls you get the ammnt of minerals used to manufacture them.

producing anything affected by the tiercide now, is a waste of time... this isn't really as problematic for Battlecruisers and frigates since they were getting destroyed at a very high rate already, but cruisers, barges and batleships will last for years.

Retrievers were able to be built a few months ago for profit again.

I'm looking at the costs to make one now using a ME10 bpo and it seems to be profitable buying minerals from jita/selling them in jita.

Really beyond a certain ME level they don't improve much anyhow. I understand it is an odd part but eh, it worked to stop people from mass refining them.

Or maybe i'm using wrong numbers.

I can sell them for a profit in some places already (not much profit though).

Wouldnt it just make more sense for ME to affect "extra materials"? I understand not wanting to magically create material so therefor reprocessing one doesnt give you back those extra materials but why doesnt ME affect it? Thats what kills me.

a retty base trit cost is around 700k trit, reduced to around 500k with a good print (ME20)

considering extra materials are 1.2m trit the current material cost for a retty is still massively inflated, doesn't really matter if its still profitable.

thats ofc considering only trit.

A third material category that is affected by ME, but is also unrecoverable in reprocessing, would be better than just making ME affect extra materials. Some things just shouldn't have the ME value applied to them (like the T1 ship hull that goes into making a T2 ship, etc.).

That said, changing this wouldn't really have that much of an impact on the profitability of barge production. It would make them cheaper to buy, but that's about it.

Also, I haven't run the numbers on them lately, but I was building them for a profit (and I mean a straight production profit (buying minerals from sell orders, selling product to buy orders) a couple months ago.

I agree that it would be nice to have it fixed, but I can't get too excited about it, personally.
