System View/Tactical Overview Interations

I've always wanted to have an improved system map. It's so dark and bare bones looking. Sometimes that isn't a bad thing for sure but there is room to not only make it look better visually but also functionally.

First the pretty graphics stuff:

Basically it would use a minature skybox and small version of the sun and planets/moons (if you zoomed in far enough, otherwise icons. Icons for sites and signatures that are being scanned would be the same as in the current skybox. Icons for BMs would reflect what was bookmarked, like a Control Tower would show a tower icon. (Similar to what is shown when you scan it down). Hovering over the D-Scan button would show visually the cone (if less than 360) and range of your scan.

Now for the tactical stuff:

Tactical overlay in eve current consists of some range information, and even that is limited because the numbers don't scale with zoom...so when you zoom out too far you end up unable to see the numbers.

1) Make the range numbers scale

2) Make the system map more tactical and strategic. Allow a fleet commander to see the scans of a "fleet scanner" assigned role. Let them also see a short hand summary of scan results (# frigates, # cruisers, # bs, # caps, # industrials, #exhumers). This would only count ship signatures that make it to 50% (or maybe 100% just to be fair). This is like a google docs version of scanning. Allow FC to train a skill that lets them use more people (since the signatures remain the same the same ship can be tracked by multiple people with the more recent scan sent to FC overview). A companion skill for the scanners could allow them to send more information at a time (limit number of signatures can be updated to FC map per level sorted by distance from scanner). Should encourage multiple scanners but not an absolute reliance on them unless the right is huge.

3) Allow the FC to train a skill to see the system map of nearby systems with tactical information.

Anyway, this is just a starting point.

Comment, suggest your own ideas. I'd like to see this for Winter (build your empire/tactical enhancements)

CCP likes to put out videos that show the star map, then zoom way in to a region, a constellation, a solar system and then zoom in to actually show that solar system. I would support being able to do that as well.

We had that for a short time. Could dynamically zoom in from ship to system to the full map. I believe it was removed because it was buggy and caused crashes.

Would be cool to bring it back, spruce it up a bit.

If you're driven to threaten others with harm or violence because of what they do in game, you can't separate fantasy from reality. That "griefer/thief" is probably more sane than you are. How screwed up is that?

The map is hard to use, because the stars are so small and you can't zoom close enough. And if you zoom close, then the stars are too far away from each other. Selecting anything is difficult, because there is tons of automatic pop up windows blocking way. Texts are either too small, too big, blinked out, or not visible at all. You have to flatten the map and try different settings to at least get the map manageable, and even then the lines that show jump routes behave erratically as they are automatic on hover over.
