Remote boosts in Odyssey?

I'd seen posts from other players implying that CCP said they were going to remove remote boosts in Odyssey. That is, the fleet/wing/squad booster would have to be on grid in order to provide boosts.

Does anyone have a link to CCP's statements on this?

Is it only for combat boosts, or mining too? If mining, does this change, combined with ore clusters becoming anoms vs. sigs, destroy the usefullness of the rorqual as a mining fleet booster?

I woudl think that the 5 min deploy timer would make rorquals sitting ducks if they have to deploy in clusters, that don't even need to be scanned down with probes.

The only thing I've read from CCP about the issue is that they're going to remove it when they find a good way to do it. I've seen nothing to indicate they're ready to do it now or that any changes are coming in Odyssey. It would be a singnificant change to the mechanic, so I don't think it will happen without a dev blog announcing it and describing the new mechanic in detail first.

As stated above. I think the bonus mechanic doesn't really care whether it's combat or mining boosts, the process of applying boosts is the same as far as the code would be concerned. OGB is such a delicate subject. I can understand how the 'on-grid' requirement would be hard to code itself apart from the mutiple contexts (mining, combat) in which these boosts apply. Combined with the coming changes to the Gravi category, an on-grid requirement would indeed be more devastating then it is now, and the addition of Ice to wspace would indeed feel as a 'meh' upgrade, since mining boosted would be hilariously dangerous. I don't think OGB will be touched any time soon. It's awefully paradoxal.

The only thing I've seen from CCP hinting in any direction was from CCP Fozzie suggesting it might be like a sphere of influence on grid, like a warp bubble.

But there aren't any plans for Odyssey that I recall.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

Fozzie mentioned removing off grid boosting when it becomes technically feasible to do so, not boosting in general.

Orca in the belt with it's babybeltmunchers providing boosts = no change.

Claymore in a POS bubble / Uberalmostunprobeable Loki hiding at a safespot providing offgrid boosts to FW noobs / "leet" PVP'ers = gone.

But for now, no changes.

Sort through to Fozzie's comments.

I hope that once the dust settles from Odyssey being deployed we'll get an update.

Not today spaghetti.

They can't really fix OGB until they put in glassblowing.

Those tears are going to be so good, it would be a travesty to not bottle them.

I've not been actively keeping-up on this topic, but here are some past compilations of CCP Fozzie's statements:

Thanks Sexy Cakes. That link is exactly what I was looking for. I think this is the key here:

Yup it's something we're putting a lot of thought into. Moving links ongrid has significant technical blockers at the moment so it's not coming anytime soon, and between now and that bright sunny someday we'll spend a lot of time consulting with miners to make sure gameplay stays interesting and useful.

It seems they are aware of the significant difference that mining boosting makes compared to combat boosting. Specifically, the need to "siege" or um.. "triage".. um... "reconfigure" the rorq with it's 5 minute timer, to make it a decent booster.

Itll be interesting to see just how leet those 'Solo' PvPers are when OGB is removed.

Id like to see it replaced with an 80- 100km sphere-of-influence bubble myself. Put those combat bonuses to work as well as the command bonuses.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Yeah why even have armor and resists on a command ship at all if it does not have to be on-grid?

Us 'solo' PvPers will get even better because not only do most of us not use links already, but it means we won't have to fight 5:1 with just implants in low versus a whole gang with implants and links, or implantless in null against a whole gang with all 3 links sitting in a pos.
