Cant decide what to crosstrain to from Caldari

I am at a total STUMP.

i have about a month old alt and im working up its core skills ATM, i want 1 char to be 2 races and another char to be 2 race.

I dont know if i want my caldari char (Has good shield skills, missiles etc, HACS, Tengu) to cross off to Minmatar or Gallente.

Minmatar kind of shares the shield skills, i dont have many SP into gunnery, but Caldari / Gallente share gunnery skills.

Im looking at whats the best time wise to corss train into where i can utilize each races skills to make the most out of the time im training.

I am mainly interested in PvP.

Any suggestions please? I really need all the help i can get here X

caldari/gallente makes the most sense since gun skills take a long longer than tank skills to train. However you're also limiting yourself to hybrid weapons only unless you take the time to train missiles as well.

if you train across to minmatar, remember not everything there is shield tanked and you're looking at a completely different weapon system to missiles (mostly).

You fit the bellicose pretty much the same as a caracal though, but that's only one ship. Almost all minnie ships use projectiles. Almost all galllente ships use hybrid weapons and drones however they also have many shield fits (gank thorax, brutix, domi etc).

Really there isn't much in the way of "saving" time, you will have to specialise eventually.

I should have been more clear - i already do have Missile skills (Not t2 torps or cruises, but HML, HAMs)

My main char is around 16msp so has most the shield / missile skills done.

I created a newer alt to support my main in what it cant do..

It just feels that the 2 most popular gun platforms for PvP is Projectiles and Lazors, you dont really see many hybrid fleet comps.

So in a way if i did take my caldari character the hybrid / gallente route, i would feel i would be wasting him on not so popular platform.

Well actually I hardly ever see lazors apart from:

zealot doctrine
IN slicers
Uni maller fleets (vov)
Baddon with carriers fleet

But I live in lowsec, I've heard of napoc shenanigans in null from big alliances.

Projectiles is undoubtedly the most popular gun platform but I see hybrids being used a lot more than lazors if I'm going to be honest.

However training lazors because they are shiny is a good enough reason in itself plus you can make a one-ship disco ball with a baddon so I would say lazors and go amarr.

I trained them all. Takes about 2-3 months, not including T2 turrets.

Train for galante or amarr. so you get access to the pirate ships etc...

nightmare or rattler.. both are shield tankers.

this is what i was thinking actually. Figure - Amarr Caldari for the nightmare. and the alt Gallente and Minmatar for the mach :)

and for once i move up to the cap world, i can have best of both worlds, An archon, and a moros :)

While you're figuring it out, train gunnery SUPORT skills. They are what makes the gun excel anyway.

Also: Your piloting style might decide for you.
Do you like fast and kiting fights? Run away if you get in trouble?
Or do you like 'In your face' brawling? Kill or die kinda fights?

For the sake of simplicity, I would go for Minmatar first and Galente second. Minmatar ships are divided enough that you can fly a good few of them with the weapon and tank skills you have now. The Breacher, Bellicose, Talwar, Cyclone, and Post-Odyssey Typhoon are all missile ships and all can be shield tanked (though the typhoon is a stretch with its limited mids). The Loki can also be fit as a missile boat, but this is a crime against nature and will cause people to look disappointed at you whenever you go through crowded areas.

Gallente, on the other hand, will make use of whatever turret skills you have. However, turret support skills are what dictate how well they will work, so if all your skills are in missiles right now you will have a very underwhelming experience flying a Gallente ship at first.

Unless you are looking to start over completely, don't go into Amarr. The selection of ships that can be shield or missile fitted are VERY slim, with none of them able to both without sacrificing much of their potential. It sounds like you want two combat toons, so I would group them as Caldari/Minmatar and Gallente/Amarr, although Amarr really doesn't cross train well with anyone, sadly.

amarr are pretty similar to gallente: mainly armour tanked and heavy use of turrets and moderate drone use

You already have Caldari ships trained.

You use shields and missiles currently.

Why would you train anything other than Gallente?

You open up Gurista ships fast and the use your current defense and weapon system.
Any hybrid stuff you learn also helps your current set of Caldari ships.
Drones always help any pilot.

If you trained amarr instead you don't only have to train the ship for it to be usefull but you'd have to wait till you have some laser skills too. The lasers you train don't work on your caldari? what a shame.

Logic dictates based on your current set of skills GALLENTE!

Keep in mind the Khanid line of Amarr ships tend to favour missiles if you have them trained already but you will have to train armour tanking as well.

I think I will be cross training to Gallente too, I've spent a lot of time in a memory SP build so my drone skills are second to none which makes the choice even easier for me.

I'm Amarr/Caldari and I can testify that I am completely useless at any and all combat aspects of Eve.

Whats your play style?

Amarr - Slow, fat ships with high tank. mostly fleet oriented (not always) + scorch!!!!
Minmatar - Hit and run, a wildcard most of the time. they are not very tough and are poor in fleets (some exceptions)
Gallente- Up close and personal, slowish due to armor, but can take a lot of punishment. prepare to be kited

If your looking at Pirate Faction ships

Gallente for the Guristas line, or Amarr for the Sansha line

Training Armour Tanking & Energy Turrets is the only extra overhead you might have, but that will let you use standard T1 ships from those 2 factions properly as well.

if your plan is 2 Chars with 2 faction access each

#1 - Caldari + Amarr
#2 - Gallente + Minmater

is possibly the better way to go. (expect #2 to shine a little brighter)

Hey there OP, I was in a similar situation recently and I chose to go Gallente/Caldari on this toon, and Minmatar/Amarr on my other one. Guristas ships are pretty f*cking sweet, and have godly tanks, plus you won't have to train for another tanking method. On the flip side, if you were to train Amarr instead of Gallente, you get access to (lol)Sansha ships, and once again don't have to train other tank methods. I wouldn't suggest going Caldari/Minmatar, because you do not gain access to any faction ships. Either way you go on the Caldari toon, training new tank methods isn't mandatory. On your alt, however, going with Minmatar and then training into Gallente or Amarr will reward you with some awesome faction ships. If you go Minny/Gallente, you get TWO pirate factions (both of which kick ass), the Serpantis and Angel Cartel. While they don't have the same tanking methods (unless you like armour Cynabals) it is still an awesome option. Going Minny/Amarr will open up Blood raiders, which IMO are the coolest looking faction ships, and they use my favourite EWAR, Neuts.

Now that I'm done with that wall of text, it is up to you. Consider the pirate factions you unlock, and decide whether they suit your likings.
