Hello everyone.

I recently got into EVE through a buddy's 21-day trial pass. I feel in love with it instantly.

Now, I have heard many people refer to eve as a "Spreadsheet Simulator IN SPAAAAAAACE" but thought it little more than people nay-saying the game.

However I have come to the realization that spreadsheets ARE, in fact, needed to manage the vast number of variables in the market and such.

Now I have only very basic excel knowledge and have no clue where to begin or what values exactly I should be entering in them.

Any examples or help full advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, and fly safe!

TBH there are so many third party helper-applications these days that the need to actually roll your own spreadsheets is pretty minimal. If your spreadsheet skills are wanting, I would just look into those.

If you want to pull stuff from eve-central, read up on their API page. Take your time as I followed a fairly low-level office education not covering data pulls in excel and even I needed a bit before I realized how to do it properly.

For the rest you only really need to put =number+number in a cell. This also includes other math stuff like dividing, multiplying etc.

You can reference to other cells. For this enter '=' in a cell and click the cell you want to reference and it'll go from '=' to '=A1', A1 being a cell. You can use this like A1+1 or A1+B1 and so on.

You can also reference other sheets, which are the tab-things at the bottom of your worksheet. Again, enter = in a cell but this time don't click a cell yet. Go to the sheet you want to reference and click the corresponding cell. It'll work just like referencing in the same sheet.

I hope this is clear enough for you. At least I hope it is after you've messed around a bit in Excel.

This probably would be the easiest thing to do. I've heard people say it's better if you make your own spreadsheet though. Anyways, take your time. If you're serious you'll learn it fairly quick.

Depends completely on what you are wanting a spreadsheet for. I have two spreadsheets that I use regularly, neither of which will be of any use to anyone unless they invent and produce T2 mods and ships.

So, what exactly are you looking for calculation help with?

Well, so far industry had been the most entertaining for me.

I was looking for something that can help with profit margins, maybe something that allows me to plug in what items/ores/ect I have and determine the most profitable action to take.

People who use Spreadsheets are the big Industry mongols, and the like.

If you stay a grunt, you will never have to look at one Lol

If you don't have PE 5 and researched blueprints, at this stage of the game the most profitable action to take is probably to just sell your stuff on the market. Smile

Head over to the sticky thread at the top of the science and industry forum - it has a link to an archive of miscellaneous resources, including an assortment of assistant and calculator tools.

Eve-MEEP is okay (it's a little flakey and crash-prone), and the Isk Per Hour application is very popular (but don't take what it says at face value).

last time i checked, the mongolian industry was nothing to write home about. but apparently they at least have spreadsheets, so good for them.

Even then they have earned the right to a capital "M' through history. Lets respect every one, even the Mongols.

Imo, a sheet of paper, a head on your shoulders, and at most a calculator (if your head malfunctions..) will suffice for 99.9% of pilots.. The other 0.1% being mongols (not the race but the ones with the extra chromosone).

Reopen the EVE gate so we can invade Serenity. Goons can go first.

While my stuff doesn't suggest what to make (because there is no 'one best thing' to make, due to fluctuations in the market) it'll take care of a bunch of the math.

The application isk per hour (not mine) is also pretty good.

Woo! CSM XI!
